Nothing is plug and play for the maxima ecu. You can buy a Utec and have it hardwired in.

Hey new2nismo, depending on when your '03 was built you might have a GEN1 ECU that can be flashed and tuned using UPREV. If you could sent a pic of the ECU connector and Email me I could tell ya if it could work. My Email is vince@rttuning.com.

Let me know

Thanks, VInce

Maxima guys seem to hard wire in Utec's from what I've seen here. A utec is as close to a standalone as piggybacks can get -- it goes on MAP and takes full control of fuel and spark in boost.

lets assume you have looked on maxima.org but anyway...

no need to try uprev.

emu, burning ign coils.

your options:

utec $$$

haltech $$$$$

utec, cheap, can tune the car, short term its the way to go.

haltech, pricey, many options, solid unit , long term its the way to go.

^^^ In 03 Maximas had a split in what ECU's were used... So Assuming he has an ECU that can be flashed, you think UTEC is a better choice, when with UPREV he would have complete Cam control(which is going to make a decent difference with cams). Raise the idle, which is super low on manual maximas...and then throw cams in the mix and idle is poor. Be able to modify the throttle ramping, and also disable various codes due to running no cats, and running cams(which sometimes give funky O2 lean shift codes and phantom random/multiple misfire).

I actually like the UTEC, it works pretty well when its one of the only options. But assuming his ECU can be flashed to UPREV I don't even think its a reasonable comparison, from a cost standpoint all the way to a functionality stand point.

I think you are referring to the 2003 G35 Sedans that had the ecu split. Some where like the 02 03 maxima, GREY connector, then some of them where the BLACK connector like the 350z.

The 03 Maxima did not have a split where some where grey and some where black ecu connectors. If they did i would sell my 02 and find that 03 haha.

By saying there is no need to try uprev i said that because there is no possible way its goin to work on the stock ecu. I was not bashing uprev at all. I wish it did work on stock maxima ecu's. I mean after all , ive swapped in a black connector ecu into my 02 maxima just to get uprev.

So thats why a UTEC or a Haltech are the only options imo Unless you want to get crazy and do a ecu swap like i did. And lose Cruise control, and some other stuff.

np man, all depends on what ya wanna do with the car. Just wanting a tune, or wanting a full tune, for serious drag/road, any racing.

Gotcha, you are correct and the 2003 Maximas are the older ECU 100%, thanks for the good info!! Its a shame cause i did a 2005 3.5 Altima a few weeks ago and made something like 35ftlbs/TQ at 3200 RPMs. Maximas/altima's run low timing and lil cam advance on lower RPM's. Tell me more about this ECU swap, was it a full harness or a Jumper harness you created??

Here is the thread about it

http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/6...-ecu-swap.html

The swap just isent worth it unless its a full on racecar swap or something. Street use to much clutter and stuff for me, and no cruise control just not gonna work for me. I'm getting a haltech and being done with it.

And im adding exhaust valve timing too, so the haltech is even more perfect for my car now.
