Default Soon to be MCR (Hong Kong) Tuned

Hi Fellow z33/z34/r32/33/34 owners in Hong Kong and Japan,

Has anyone tried/visited the following tuning shop? I've came across it on an advertisement in a local tuning magazine in Hong Kong.

http://www.mcr-ltd.com/
http://www.mcr.hk/

Cheers

MCR from what I know of them is a top notch tuning company. I really can't say much for their in house work or professionalism since I haven't had any direct dealings with them.

MRC right up there with Top Secret and the other tuning companies. I've never been nor have I had work done by them, but they are highly regarded in the industry.

Thank you for your reply guys. That was great to hear. I've recently obtain a quotation from MCR Hong Kong for approx US$870 for the following tune:

Speed limiter design, the rotation limiter, electric radiator fan start point, throttle MAP, variable valve timing MAP, MAP, fuel ignition change in MAP.

Is this a reasonable price?

My performance modification includes:
Motordyne 5/16" plenum spacer
Berk High Flow cats
Motordyne Engineering Y-pipe with resonator
FGK exhaust

The shop initially advised a gain of 20-30hp according to my setup. I'm interested in your thoughts.

Thanks a lot.

I ended up paying a visit last weekend to MCR in Hong Kong. Had them to tune my Tein Monoflex a little and to install the rear endlinks as an "audition" for the upcoming chip remap. They seem to be pretty legit and knows what they are doing.

The upload function wouldn't work for me, so I've posted some FB link of the actual MCR z33 that have won the Z cup in Japan (I think) below.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb....839819&type=3

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fb....839819&type=3

They allowed me to sit in the MCR z33 for a spin, and oh boy, it is definitely a lot quicker than the regular Z that I have with a redline of around 7.5k rpm.

Can't wait to have my Z chipped in March by Mr. Kobayashi himself! Deposit paid!

Quick update:
Car is in the garage and to be chipped within this week!!! Got a photo too, but...

On a side note:
Ok, I'm guessing no one here can view those photos from the FB links right? Anyway, I just can't get the attachment working to post photos. I tried less than 200KB in size and less than 640*480 pixels in resolution. Nothing would work. Would someone here like to offer his/her help to upload 4 photos for me please? I could email the photos to you.

Hope it all works out.
I also hope it's not the same Kobayashi from The Usual Suspects... You don't want to get involved with Kaiser Sauze by accident.

So it has been done... I'm still looking for someone who can help me post up some photos, including a photo of myself and Mr. Kobayashi of course!

What was done:
180km/h speed delimited, raising rev limiter to 7k rpm, starting point of electric radiator fan, throttle map, variable valve timing map, fuel map, ignition timing MAP.

I haven't had much time with my car since the tune, but the most noticeable difference off the bat is definitely being able to rev 7k rpm and holding it here, instead of the woom woom woom decrease in rpm at the usual 6.6k rpm. And I do feel a slight increase in power all through the rpm range, with the low and mid-end being more apparent.

did you visit their shop facility or just their display store? I was able to stop by their display store a month ago (just like the one shown in your photos), but they didn't have the z33 available. worker there told me it was at their other location preparing for a drift event in china. still nice to finally sit in their selection of bride seats and take a look at the quality. a good selection of jdm parts on display. picked up a t-shirt while i was there.

Based on the below website, the full titanium exhaust is around 472k Japanese Yen.

I've been to both their display store and tuning garage. This time, I was at their tuning garage in the rural area (Sai Kung).

P.S. Voboy, are you in Hong Kong at the moment?

After a few more weeks with my chipped Z, the increase in power all through the rpm range is apparent, with the low and mid-end being more pronounced, though it is hard for me to say the exact increase in HP/TQ.

Another update:
It seems like my car consumes 10-15% more gasoline compared to before, is this normal? Has anyone experienced something similar or contrary?

Chips usually increase the fuel in for this. Full tunes make the burn as efficient as possible, technically you should see a slight improvement with tuning, but most people can't keep their foot off it for it to ever show

That is exactly what I've heard and would reasonably expect from the little that I know about tuning, hence the reason I'm sharing my experience. By slight improvement, I'm guessing you're referring to less than 10%? Approximately of course.

Yeah, very little improvement over stock, but it should be there as a rule.

The little improvement in fuel economy actually makes total sense to me.

In fact, I've got another observation/question:
It seems like after the tune, the idle exhaust gas is hotter than before the tuning. Has anyone experienced that before?

It's possible, but how are you even gauging this?

If the current tune is leaner than the previous, then the heat is likely to be a little higher.

u were running lean with your mods before, the tune dumped more gas in for you to make more power with ur mods... more fuel burning would mean less fuel economy, but more power, i.e. more efficiency of the engine overall. it would make sense to if you are burning more fuel/making more power to have a little more exhaust heat doesnt it?
