Default GT vs base questions...

I've got a Q4 2003 date confirmed for my GT spec car. I opted for a GT spec because I wanted leather.

On closer inspection, I now realise that I'm paying a whopping £2500 for GT spec (heated electric leather seats, cruise control and 7-speaker bose system). However, I really don't want/need cruise control (why on earth didn't we get sat-nav instead???!), and I'm not bothered about the BOSE system either, would rather spend the money on a custom audio install.

So I'm thinking of downgrading to base spec and sorting out my own custom leather aftermarket. I'd like heated seats, but for £2500?... I can pay someone to warm my *** by hand for less than that!

But anyway, my question is this: Did I only get a Q4 date just because I specified GT spec? Wht do you think would happen if I downgraded to base, in terms of a delivery date?

I visited my dealer today, and he said that I was one of the first people to "put my money where my mouth is," in terms of the deposit cheque, so I'm very high up on their list for a car, one of the first. Don't know if that makes any difference though.

When are the base spec cars arriving? Anyone have a delivery date?

Thanks guys!!!

Sally

The first release of cars for the UK were all GT spec with Rays Forged Alloys, so to answer your question - Yes, this is why you got a Q4 2003 confirmation.

My understanding is that if you had ordered a base model you would have been confirmed as Q1 2004 (as gizmo).

The next issue will be whether your dealer is... willing/will be allowed... to do a change to your order, or whether he will have to place a new order putting you at the back of the queue again?

There again how long is the queue? The Nissan dealer in Guildford suggested to me recently that orders are now being taken for May/June 2004... but this could just be plain old bull & bluster

PS Checked out your website... you are definitely a true petrolhead, I can tell that from your songs

I don't know whether they offer side-impact airbags in the UK, but be aware that if they do you can't really put aftermarket leather upholstery on your seats because the airbags are in the sides of the seat cushions.

Good point Mark. The UK cars have front, side and curtain airbags. I think I will stick with the GT. My deciding factor on even getting the car (now that I have my TVR Tuscan) is safety. I am not relishing the idea of driving the TVR in the winter, and if I downgrade to base not only do I miss out on a set of airbags but I also don't get the car until *after* winter. By which time I could be in hospital

I better get that off-street parking application sent in.... (going to convert my car-sized front garden into a Z parking space)
