Exclamation Car Security

Have any of your guys & girls been thinking about any additional security that the Z might require?

For my current car I have a simple additional steering lock on top of the standard wheel lock and immobiliser/alarm. This gives an additional visual deterent (when I actually remember to use it).

Being that the Z is much better than my current ride, what sort of provisions are you going to be making?

I've done a very brief look at a couple of websites to get some ideas, and am also considering a tracker system.

Thoughts?

We are going to have a Nissan alarm system as standard, which will include volumetric sensors etc...

Sign of the Times & all that

Tracker seems quite a good idea though...

...also my dealer mentioned that Nissan can over a Equity & Shortfall Protection Plan (but they don't know how much yet)

Equity Plan is basically an insurance backed policy & should your car be written off (by you or the thieving toe rags) it will pay the shortfall between your car's market value at the time & the cost of a replacement identical new vehicle. It covers the car for 3 years for a single premium

Shortfall is similar, but pays off any outstanding finance that may be owing, if your insurance doesn't pay out enough. i.e. better than ending up with no car & a debt, if you're financing

A little bit of information for your consideration

I'm quite happy to go with the factory fitted alarm and imobiliser. I don't think it's worth upgrading as any self respecting (if such a thing exists) twoc'er can get around most security systems within seconds. I suppose steering/gear locks help to slow them down a bit, and perhaps make them look for easier pickings, but at the end of the day, if they want it they'll have it (sad fact).
I think the only additional security worth having is a tracker, does'nt stop them taking your pride and joy of course, but at least you know that the police should be able to catch them up in double quick time, hopefully before they can do any damage or the car leaves the country!.
