+1 on what MRC said. Only time its even worth it to rev up to 7000rpm's would be in 1st gear as it goes by very quickly(for drag racing), after that its absolutely stupid and worthless. That wont last long like that....

ah i didnt know that. i thought they pulled straight through 7500 rpm. If thats so, then its pointless to rev past 6800 unless you're at the end of a 1/4 mile and dont want to shift

Hey, (Dan, right? Don't hate me if I forgot )

do you have any dyno printouts?

What do you think your optimal shift point is now?

Exactly, they peak like standard Z's at 6200rpm's so even shifting at stock redline is dumb...

wow! sorry guys, I didn't mean to start anything by this except to show my redline. All I wanted to show was that I was able to stay in gear longer. Sorry it took me a while to respond as my birthday was yesterday.

yardee, thanks for trying to defend me but MRC and Alberto make a good point. However, I don't think it is RETARDED that Technosquare set my redline to 7500. I have to think they have a reason for doing so. I'd also like to try going against another 06 enthusiast with popcharger to see exactly what will happen.

I usually take it to 7500 while I'm in 1st and 2nd. But that's usually it. It helps me accelerate quickly out of a hole. When I shift earlier I found the car seems to bog down a little, even with the TC off. I mentioned this to Tadashi at Technosquare and his suggestion was to take it to redline.

Hey Mike, whats up! I have my dyno printout and it shows the peak a little past 6300 so the guys make a valid point about taking it to 7500. Please note that Shawn Church, who dynoed my car asked what my redline was after I had mentioned it was post-reflash. He told me beforehand that he would stop it by 7000 due to the powerdrop off after 6000 something. So he was thinking the same thing. That's why it drops off so early in case you guys were wondering why it doesnt even show 7500

Exactly, they peak like standard Z's at 6200rpm's so even shifting at stock redline is dumb...
so if shifting at redline is dumb on stock cars, why does everyone do it?

I don't think everyone shifts at stock redline though. I only do it in 1st since it goes by so fast. After that, I shift at around 6200 since thats where the power starts dropping off.

so based on my dyno, I should be shifting at 6500?

Im sorry reading that today I wasnt clear enough. If you have a non revup with the 6600rpm redline, then def 100% shift at redline, especially in the lower gears. You shouldnt shift at your hp peak, you should go past it some, but not too far, especially since power drops off so fastfor us regular guys with no cams/flashes after 6600rpm's. What I should have said was on REVUP's, shifting at even 7000rpm's (besides 1-2 shift when dragging) is dumb. No need to shift at 7000rpm's or more on a revup seeing as how they peak the same as standard Z's but have an increased redline. That was what I should have said

Based on your dyno(really dont have to look as I know where you peak) follow these shift points for good 1/4 times-if you can also launch and shift well.

1-2 at 7000-7200rpm's do it right and you will land 2nd at around 5000rpm's!
2-3 at 6700rpm's
3-4 at 6600rpm's, then you will finish the 1/4 in 4th and hopefully run a good time....

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Well i am new here so its nice to meet all of you. I have an 06 Z as well. I wanted to do the same thing on my Car. I was thinking of actually doing it up to 8000rpms but not after i heard all of this. I only have one question. If ur car makes power past 7000rpms and u can Tune the cars A/F for past 7000rpms can u do this mod? I have a dyno sheet that i dont know how to post on here. My car puts out power to the 7000rpm. And i am sure that it will even after that. So what do u guys think?
