The 350z is a nice car, obviously not the fastest out there, but the Z has more than enough speed for me. You can make a faster car than the Z with 10 grand, but It's not speed we're after, we still have the better looking car. remember guys .. there will always be faster cars out there!

Yea and I can see why you guys are upset, He was talking **** on the video, but there are too many ****** out there to be upset over that. You still have to respect the cars speed though, no matter what an *** the driver is.

BTW FairladyZ parts for the older generation FB are a lot cheaper than it would be for a Z. Just giving you a heads up.

And the people replying and talking **** on the Z probably drive a slower car anyway ..

Yeah you guys are right. I am still curious what he spent on his car. I think its pretty amazing actually. Yeah the other guys get a little offensive, but thats expected your on an all 350z forum.

I think I could give that FB? (I thought it was FD? dont know anything about the RX-7's) a better run.

The car is an '84 or '85 GSL-SE (can't remember which year, not much of a difference at all).

I'm currently working on a similar project, just with a bigger turbo and a lighter base model. With 350whp, the car is capable of running high 10s.

My project so far has cost me about $7K and I would doubt he spent more than $10K total on the project.

SA - 79-80
FB - 81-85
FC - 86-92
FD - 93-02

You don't want to know...

/rotarhead on
They outhandle a 350z and are only a few tenths slower in the 1/4.
/rotarhead off

They want/need boost bad. Fun, over-engineered car to drive though.

September issue of EVO has the 350Z compared with the RX8 (and a few other nice cars), and the acceleration numbers were not exactly what I'd call close. Here's are the numbers straight from EVO:

350Z:
- 0-40mph = 3.7sec
- 0-60mph = 6.1sec
- 0-100mph = 14.8sec
- 0-120mph = 21.9sec
- 1/4mile = 14.7sec @ 99mph

RX8:
- 0-40mph = 4.0sec
- 0-60mph = 7.0sec
- 0-100mph = 19.0sec
- 0-120mph = 31.1sec
- 1/4mile = 15.5sec @ 92mph

Neither are the best ever times for either car, but they were there at the same place, same time and in the same conditions.

Did they compare slalom speeds? I'd be interested to see those...and skidpad...

The RX-8 guys on our forum are in the 14s at least, I'm sure on their best days both cars are in the 14s.

I think they did test those ... will take a look when I get home. Though, I do recall the 350Z pulling higher Gs.

Yeah, most magazines have the RX8 in mid to high 14s ... I have no doubts that it can do 14s. Though, the point was that when they had the 2 cars there in the same conditinos, the 350Z covered the 1/4mile 0.8sec quicker. That's a reasonable different.

ps. I'm also sure that the RX8 can get to 100mph quicker than in the above-mentioned EVO test. Usually it's more like 16 to 17sec and not 19.

Yeah post up those numbers if you could...why isn't their a quote function on here?!

There is one large difference between the cars besides the motor and that is their intended platform...obviously the RX-8 is not meant to be an enthusiast's sports car, whereas that's the driving force behind Nissan introducing the 350Z. That's not an excuse to backup the 350Z's numbers, just a fact.

OK, it is not a skid-pan number but "average Gs though a particular cornering complex". Anyway the Gs that the RX8 and 350Z clocked here were not far off:
- 350Z = 0.90g
- RX8 = 0.89g

Another bit of interesting data they clocked for the RX8 is the top speed. Best they managed was 146.4mph which is pretty impressive. Also they stopped the RX8 from 100mph in 309ft (4.25sec). The 350Z did not do well here as they had some brake-problems. 337ft and 4.5sec.

True. IMHO, the RX8 is more like an M3 than 350Z.

Interesting numbers! Thanks for posting them.

At any rate, I think Nissan and Mazda dropped the ball on power. The RX-8 is light but doesn't have enough power. The 350z is overweight, much like it's predecessor (the 300zx).

When will manufacturers get it right? I hope to see Mazda produce a 2800lb, 300HP sports car to succeed the RX-7.

His point was the RX-8 can HANDLE tremendously well in stock trim. It's light weight and almost perfect weight distribution achieves this.

Just signed up for this site, so I know I'm a few months late in viewing this vid. It was actually pretty cool. Naturally, I'd rather see the Z win, but really, in the big picture, the Z will easily out-do his 7 in any other comparison test, especially getting looks from girls, which is a major part of owning a sporty car. Cool vid, though.

I dunno about any other comparison test other than aesthetics. That car can handle!
