Buy the Quaife. It'll be better then using any of the OEM LSDs.

Nismo LSD is around $1000 i think and comes with everything you need to install into a base model car.

I'd dare you to drive a Z with a Cusco, Quaife or Carbonetics in the twisties and then come back and say the same thing

As a guy who's car came with factory VLSD, I can tell you first hand there is zero comparison - it completely transforms the car for the better and does not give any of the typical VLSD issues (esp. on track)

+1 on that Adam.

I have experienced No LSD, Nismo LSD, Vlsd, and finally the Quaife.

First the price is less than 2k even installed. The gains are fair better than 90% of the other mods you will do with your car. The Quaife has been just great and I would recommend that one for anyone with a Base model because there is just less overall parts to buy.

The three that Adam stated are by far my favorite ones. I have first hand experience with all three, and I have to say that you cannot go wrong with any of those.

Nismo was a bit too loud for me. The clunking etc made me just cringe when I knew I was approaching a slow turn or getting ready to park the car.

not for nothing but my car has never been to an auto-x either, nor will it (I don't particularly enjoy auto-x). As for no twisties, not sure where you live, but 20 minutes north and west of NY are some absolutely amazing roads, and within 30 minutes you're in the Bear Mountain area, where the roads are absolutely fantastic and anything but straight. And even if all you do is straight line work, the factory VLSD is overtaxed on even a moderate turbo setup, and is one of the most worthwhile, and rewarding mods you can do to these cars, regardless of it's powerlevel and regardless of whether you drag or road race. Just ask Kevin - I'm pretty sure his car has never been on a road race course, and is primarily just a street machine, but the affects a good lsd has over the factory viscous are night and day from the moment you put your foot down.

I also have a base, its a DD. I do some "spirited" driving here and there, what are the pro's and cons of the Nsmo LCD or anything other LCD for that matter? Is it anything like traction control? Forgive me for the noob questions.

I bought an '07 base back in July. I swapped the pumpkin for a VLSD from an '06. Cost me $400.

i was under the impression that if you bought the nismo lsd you had to buy a few otehr things that made the price go up fast, where if you buy the Q they have a kit that includes all.

I have heard that the nismo makes noise. BUT for us drag guys, what would be the best option?

NISMO comes with everything needed for a base, but yes, it is the noisiest of all the aftermarket diffs

A Quaife is a drop in replacement for a base model, and is the quietest of the bunch - not the ideal diff for road racing IMHO, but a good all around performance upgrade and it works seamlessly

I just got the carbonetic diff installed in an 07 base model and the stub axles had to be replased cuz the base model/open diff has different stub axles than the vlsd equipped vehicles. Just figured i would warn anyone thats planning on going this rout so its not sitting in pieces while you order stub axles from the dealer!
Dont remember the part numbers for axles but Andy at performance nissan could assist if you need them.

How does the CuscoRS compare to the Nismo, from a performance only standpoint. I could live with the extra noises the Nismo makes for the monetary difference.
