Default Hr????

The other night I went out with my wife and some friends to the movies. My friend was driving behind us on I-95. I was on 6th gear going about 70mph. I downshifted into 4th from 6th and took the Z to 7200rpm. Anyways my friend said that he heard a pop and a flash of fire from the exhaust. Is it normal for the HR to do that at high rpm or am I running rich?

My exhaust backfires almost everytime I shift (when I am in the lower gears of course). It makes all kinds of pop chicka bang bangs. I like, it makes it sound aggressive.

I have never seen a stock exhaust pop chicka bang bang, neither a Nismo for your matter.

just 4,100 miles??? I think that's a bit harsh to rev that high before breaking the car in.

Why? isn't the break in period over after 1200 miles?

LOL It probably sounds that way because of your Berk HFC's?

Correct.

Another member also has the same setup and he has the same little backfires. I really do like the exhaust note much better now that I got the HFC's.

As for break-in periods, I remember getting my brothers RX8 back in 05 (I hate the car BTW), and the first day he got it he revved the cream cheese outta that engine! Redlining to 9k every time after launching at stoplights. Today with him having well over 75,000 miles on the odo, he has not had a single issue, except for developing water condensation inside his left taillight.

Just food for thought.

Yeah, that's what I tought The break in period has come in gone. How's your Berk HFC's? Have you had any issues Like CEL's? I had ordered a set for my car a while back but, returned them because, The stealership claimed that it would void my warrenty. I know it's bullsh!t but I did'nt want to take that chance. I know that Berk makes a good damm product. Is it true that our stock cats have good flow and when you replace them with HFC's your numbers on the dyno go down a bit?

Zero issues. Zero CEL's.

Lose power? Void warranty? As far as warranty goes, I doubt these will void the warranty. I don't know where you're getting your information, but these cats make excellent power dude. I remember seeing a dyno on a stock Z and it showed a good increase in power through all rpm's. For reference, there's a member on here, user name: WalkerT, who has the same exact setup like me and dyno'd 284whp. I think those are fantastic numbers.

At the end of this video you can see the dyno graph and Berk Technology gives the results at the end:

I believe you that the HFC's make some power. But, I got my info from some older threads. They just never made any sense to me. I would have put them on my car if it wasnt because of my service advisors big trap.

I think if your exhaust is popping your getting the fuel burning at night. Then its true that the HR runs rich like a mother****er. I seen the exhaust pop at night on my friends RX-7TT it looks sweet. He also runs pretty rich though.
