I'm not sure if the AC is elcetric or mechanical. If it's mechanical it will be a noticeable loss in power. Electrical ac would be less noticeable. Typically turning on the ac will add an extra load to your engine but in most modern cars it is minimal. An added person in the car with you would be more noticeable.

(Without starting a new thread)

Man I swear to GOD that there are some simple minded questions being asked on this forum. And along with that, it seems that the quality of the owners is dropping. The cheaper the car gets the easier it is for just anyone to buy it.

Why don't you drive your car at a constant speed in any gear then accelerate with and without the A/C on and see if there is a difference. Try that experiment and get back to us. After you come to a conclusion, close the thread.

Uh huh......yeah. Lets go over this.

Basically, the air conditioning system has two things that really load the engine, the main component being the compressor, which is belt driven, the other loading element is the blower motor. The blower motor is electric, and adds a fair bit of load to the alternator, however, this is much less significant.

The compressor will disengage when you go to (or near) wide open throttle. This is to reduce the draw from the engine, however, partial throttle acceleration will suffer, but full throttle is unchanged.

My truck its very noticeable in, the Z not so much.
