Long Tube Intakes with no Tune? (Lean?)
Hey guys,
So I've done the research, blah blah. I don't expect to get much, if any, additional power from intakes on my HR (only mod is cat-back), but I'm still considering them, mostly just for the sound. I don't want to deal with a tune though, because of peace of mind with my warranty (I'm assuming a tune would void my warranty... if something just happened to go wrong with the engine). Yes, I realize a tune would probably net me more HP after the intakes than the intakes will give me alone, but like I said I'm afraid to tune. Feel free to try to talk me out of that fear.
Anyways, are intakes safe without a tune or will I run a risk of running lean? I think I might have read something about that a while back, that's why I'm asking. I would most likely go with Injen over the Stillen, fwiw. And I'm talking about the long-tube intakes that put the filter behind the bumper.
Thanks!
John

I dont think the dealership would know if your car is tuned. But, to benefit from those intake's i personally think your going to need to some sort of tune. Other than that it just sound, and maybe some slight hp increase?

You will not run lean with STILLEN Gen 3 Intakes without a tune, unless you're running headers, HFC's or test pipes, and a cat-back exhaust. The combination of the headers and HFC/Test pipes is the factor that can make it lean.
There is absolutely horsepower to be gained from the DTB engine with the Gen 3's, and that's been independently proven over and over.
Most recently, Modified Magazine did a feature with their car, and netted over 16whp..

If warranty is a concern, you could always have your local Nissan dealer do the installation of the STILLEN Gen 3 Intakes.. there are hundreds of dealers across the country that are very familiar and trust STILLEN products.
Hope that helps..

ShawnZ: I don't think the severity of lean-ness due to the mods listed in this thread would be noticeable. However you could lose a small amount of power when compared to a proper tune. You could also potentially damage your engine from running too lean. Again though, I don't think intakes/exhaust could make you that lean. However, this car is my baby and I want her to run perfectly! =)
Josh and hellsoldiers08, thanks for the responses!

Well only difference is that still intakes pipes a lil bigger than injen but your highest flow or w.e is only as big as the smallest area(aka throttle thing, i cant think tonight lol)..... Or something like that. Either way i think you get the picture.
