Default Catch Can setup

Hi,
Regarding setting up a catch can can someone clarify a couple questions:

(I'm not sure if I need a passenger, drive side or both) I guess ideally I'd plum both as I don't know which is causing me to burn oil. Im a DE relatively stock setup, CAI, Exhaust and some other minimal mods.

1.) When people setup a vented catch can going from where the PCV originally was, the filter on the can makes the system no longer a closed loop. What's the point of having a canister (I don't think oil will get pulled though anymore?), could you not just put a little air filter where the PCV was and another filter where the line was originally supposed to be plumed to (behind the plenum or intake... wherever it goes).

2.) Ideally how would I setup the passenger and driver side? Is there any straight forward diagrams, everyone seems to have different setups with respect to where the hoses go.

3.) The vacuum tube by the lower plenum is capped, is this normal (got the car used) and will I be needing this/what is it used for?

Much Appreciated,

Mike
