Default Tire question, experts on tires, help

Hi, I know that the sidewalls of tires have some type of protection made by that belts? or those strings....I saw them sticking out when I had mad camber wear on my tire and saw it.

And here's the question, Does the regular part of the tire( where treads are) have that kind of belts and string things underneath also?

I am asking this, Because I recently got two used tires from E bay, saying some rubber on tread is missing, and the rubber missing seems to be very deep. lets say, 1mm deeper than where the indented parts of the thread, but from looking inside, no holes and seems just fine. and no white belt thing showing, so this is why i was asking.

and that tire seller dude won't reply back. He said rubber missing is not bad at all. oh well, there goes my $200 if this is useless.

let me know!
thanks guys.
John.

honestly id be scared to run tires with sections of the tire tread missing. what you will see when the rubber tread wears down below the wear indicators is a steel belt. it usually shows strips of wires once this area is reached. even though you may not be deep enough to see the belts the thought of running tires with missing tread is not safe. you could have a blowout from this. the seller naturally will tell you that its fine this way as he wants to make a sale.......use your better judgment! if you werent concerned you would not have posted this thread..... best of luck!

Buy some NEW inexpensive tires instead. Look at Kumho, Sumitomo, or Yokohama. You want the risk your $30k car on crappy tires? And perhaps your life if you have a serious blowout on the highway?

ReavTek, Yea obviousely, that's why I posted this thread. Also these are not cheap tires. They are Bridgestone S03's. Also I bought these not to save money, but because It was being sold as a mint condition tire. and it's a seller's fault, not mine.

Mdacko, Thanks for that site! now I know that under the tread, there are some extra rubber underneath that covers all those steels and etc.

well, The rubber is still covering all that inside materials underneath the rubber.
then would this be fine?

thanks,
John.

you could have the tire plugged safely. have a local shop take a look at it.

Although the belts are not showing, I would be concerned with the missing junks of rubber, which IMO is a red flag for any tire sale. I hope they're not too bad. Good luck.

If there are chunks of tread missing there is a major problem with those tires. Tires do not lose "chunks" of tread.
