Default 19inch tire with nail!

hi guys, I just found out that my girl's g35 that has 19's on has a nail on the rear tire. 275/35/19. Do I have to get it patched up from the inside of the tire or just plug type will be fine with those tires? plug= that you make the hole bigger, and stick that rubbery stuff in from the outside of the tire and done.

thanks guys
John.

It would be best to get it repaired from the inside. A bunch of tire places perform this service, but be careful, they can can (and will) scratch your rims.

I had a nail taken out of my tire a while back and they took a nice chunk out of the lip of my rim. They paid to have it repaired, but when you look closely, you can see some residual scratches from the repair.

The prefered and safest way of patching a tire is dismounting it and doing it from the inside. They have a new style patch/plug that works great. It's a plug that you pull through the hole and it has a patch attached to the end of it that seals against the inside of the tire. So it has twice the safety of a conventional patch.

thanks for the replies, but since it was emergency, i just did the plug myself. and it seems to hold air so far.(3hrs) is this still not safe in the long run? also how much does the patch job usually cost including remounting and balancing?

manofsteele2003, do you happen to know any good shop around ya that does that good? ifso, can you hook me up?
thanks again guys!

I normally do the work myself or have one of my friends help me out. I work for a Jaguar dealer part time so I have the tools and the resources.

You should be able to have any local shop do it for you, but if I were you I would take it to a place that deals with aftermarket rims alot. Especially a place that does alot of low profile tires, they are alot more difficult to mount/dismount than standard size tires. Plus alot of those places have special mounting machines made for the low-pro tires.

If you have any trouble finding a place let me know cause I could probably get it done for you. I was just trying to save you trip down here. Plus I'm only there once a week.

I faced this same dilema 2 weeks back. I don't trust any tire shops around me so I just plugged it myself. It has held just fine with no air leaks after 2 weeks. As soon as I find a good tire shop, I plan on getting it plugged from the inside as I used to work at Wal Mart Tire & Lube, and I know the advantages of patching from the inside.

I took mine to my local rim shop which is half a mile away and they plugged it from the inside for $10.00. My tire has been holding great.
