I was looking at 19's but the price of the rear tires is kind of keeping me away. Then I noticed on falken's webpage they were showing the height of each tire and I saw that the 285/35/19 is about the same size as the 245/40/19. So if I ran 245/35/19 and 245/40/19 I would have the same stagger as if i ran the 285's.

I don't really care about drag racing and my stock 17's are only 235 in the rears right now. Is there a huge problem with running such a thin rear wheel? Is it really worth the $200 it would cost me to just buy the 285/35/19's?

I am not going to get something junky just b/c its cheap but I don't want to spend money on something I don't need. Thanks for the help.

 

Hey hypeiv. We meet yet again . First of all, in order for us to help recommend the correct tire size, you'll need to let us know what size you're rims are going to be (i.e. 19x8, 19x9, 19x10, etc...).

 

The correct sizing for the rear is actually 275/35-19. If money is a factor for you, instead of compromising your performance for looks, why not compromise your looks just a little for maximum performance. Go with 18" wheels and get the right sized tires. 245/40/18 and 275/40/18. 8.5" wheel width in front and 9.5" wheel width in rear. The 18" wheels may be a little less expensive and the 18" tires will definitely be less expensive.

 

You don't realize how important correct tire sizing is. Wrong setup, and you can end up paying a lot more down the line on alignment, unnecessary wear, etc. Get 245 front and 275 back. Remember, tires are the only part of the car that make contact with the road, so you shouldn't skimp on them.

 

Couldn't agree more. Everything you can possibly do to your car is ultimately turned into action through those four little points of contact with the road. Never skimp on tires in a performance car. I would almost argue that if you were going to do only one mod on this car, you should get maximum performance rubber.

 

great answers thats really all I needed to hear to justify spending more money. I was thinking 19x8.5 and 19x9.5's.

There is a guy selling a set in houston I may go look at but the rear offsets are pretty crazy. Again I don't want to go with them just to save money but he offered to let me "try them on" so I may see what it looks like.

its 19x9.5 with only a 17 offset... so it will stick out like a 19x10.5 30 offset. and the fronts have a 38 offset but only 19x8.5. Seems like a very crazy combo

yeah that combo does sound a little weird. but it may be worth it if you are getting a great deal. i wish i knew then what i know know about wheels and offsets before i pulled the trigger about a year ago. like you i got a crazy deal to get 19's. got everything out the door after taxes for under 1600 bucks. good rims too. not great but good: TSW. well the problem is that the front offset was way off. put the tires on and whammo, too tucked in. like your front is going to be. so what i had to do is get some spacers to bring the front out. decent size spacers too, 20mm. aint cheap, 170 bucks a pair. but even with that the deal is still cheaper than if i had gone with another rim.

so you just need to weigh your options. your rear will be good, but you will need spacers with that front rim width

Considering the styles you were looking at on the other thread. I think the J5s are really close to what you're looking for. This issue now is, it depends on how much you are willing to spend for wheels + tires.
