Default Avon Tech M 500 Tires

I put on my new Avon Tech M 500 tires today. 245/45 F and 255/45 R on the 17 inch stock wheels. I plan on beating them up as HPDE tires. I don't want to make the switch to R compounds yet and it was getting expensive chewing up my 19" Toyos, so I thought I would try these. The four tires cost less than $500 total. Now to wear the new off them and see how they do.

My inital impression is that they are alot quieter and smoother than the Toyo's. I'll let you know about grip, etc. once they have some miles on them.

Ah, yeah. I'm interested in the grip factor. I've used Avon tires on motorcycles, and they seemed pretty good.

i've only put about 50 miles on them so far, so i can't tell you much yet. looks like we have a nice weekend coming up, so hopefully i can get some more miles and more impressions.

well, i have now put about 500 miles on the new Avon's and have been fairly impressed by them. as said before, the ride is quieter and softer than with the Toyo's, but i'm sure alot of that has to do with moving from the 19's to the 17's.

The grip seems about the same. having a smaller tire in the rear now cancels out some of the push i was getting with the bigger Toyo's. the real test will come this weekend as they will get a beating at VIR's south course. i'll let you know how they grip and how they hold up.

a little BTTT here...

I beat the hell out of these tires over two days at VIR's South Course. They held up very well with no chunking or abnormal tread wear. I can say without a doubt that they held up better than the Toyo's under the same treatment. The traction was very close if not the same. The car still understeers too much, but less than with the more staggered Toyo's. The really nice thing is that these tires are not unidirectional, meaning I can swap them left to right from one event to the next to balance out wear.

Thus far I am very glad I made this move.

any more updates on how these tires perform?
Have any pics of the 255's on the stock rear? Wondering if that thick a tire bulges too much.
