Crappy steering / handling on 19s ?
Yea this is a weird issue because I have the same exact setup on stock suspension, but my car does not exhibit this problem. In fact the car is more sensitive to my steering. You know, I'm starting to agree with some of the members that the Toyos may be the culprit. I had Hankooks on my Hiros before and they flex less around the corners. The toyos seem a bit softer in comparison, although it didn't translate to slow response for me. Anyone else?
I may have found the problem.
I spoke to my boy Ted from Scott Performance (www.ScottPerformance.us), and he informed me that when I went from 18" to 19", I raised the car by about half an inch (I'm still trying to visualize this). This, in effect, would cause the crazy jello-like characteristics of the suspension I'm experiencing right now.
He thus suggested that I try lowering the car 1/2 an inch, and then getting an alignment. That should bring the car back to stock height.
Does this make sense to you guys ? I'm still trying to mentally visualize how a same-diameter wheel/tire combo can raise the car, but I'm probably retarded. I have alot of faith in this guy's input, so I'll probably be following his advice one way or another.

Send me your wheels, and let me keep them indefinitely. I'll let you know if they are taller.
Are your t1s's Xl or standard load constuction. If they are xl they need much higher inflation than the stock tires. Toyo web site says the max load for the fronts size you are running is 1433lbs@44psi, that is the same amount(1433lbs) that the stock fronts support at 35psi. Toyo uses greater inflation to support the weight of the car, OEM uses a stiffer sidewall to achieve same support at a lower inflation.
You will know if you are over inflated at 44psi by ride harshness and lack of grip from crowning the tread.
Disclaimer: tire inflation has many different things to take into account and some is just driver feel/comfort.

Does anyone else know what I'm talking about or how to fix this ? I'm running the following setup on a stock suspension (except for a sway bar, and it happened without it too):
19x9.5 (+22) 245/35/19
19x10.5 (+22) 275/35/19
Toyo T1S
My previous rims (ADR M-Sports) weren't as wide, but I still noticed the crappier response. And when I drove the car on stock 18s again, it felt beautiful! Is there any way to keep 19s and make it feel sharp again ?
Need your advice boys!

Those tires sizes are really narrow for those rims widths.
By the way, you have the sickest looking Z I have seen in any forum so far.
Is that the version 2 wing? I'm trying to find somebody where I can order the version 3. Where did you get your wing? How was the qaulity, damage prep time etc?
Chad
Johnlotusboy: How do I check if they're XL or not ?
Chad: Thanks. Yah its the V2 wing. I got it from 350zforums. It got broke in transit the 1st time around, but overall the quality was good, prep time minimal.

slay2k....just put on thruxton tsw 19.8.5 and 19.9.5 and 245/285 and getting THE SAME CHIT AS YOU....talked to my guy in town..he says lower it a tad and retune your sways to help w/ the understeer....b/c that is what im getting alot of now..im buying my springs tonight...damnit!
I lowered my car this weekend and tuned the suspension with Tein Flex+EDFC (and Cusco sways) and it now handles MUCH BETTER than it did with 18s. LIke its on rails. If you are sitting on stock suspension and have not lowered it or anything its probably your problem.
I don't understand how lowering the car helps ? Shouldn't the ride height be exactly the same as with 18s, since wheel/tire diameter is the same ?! So why lower it ?
I am suspicious of lowering because I already scrape everywhere I go, since my front bumper is far from the wheel, even though I'm on stock suspension.
And 35ounces, what about alignment ? Did you do all that to your car ? Do you have a caster/camber kit, etc ?

Its probably more the coilovers and springs and suspension settings in general than it is the height that made the big difference for me. I went from stock suspension to Tein Flex (which is aggressive). I lowered it to make it look better also, not sure exactly how the ride height effects things other than the obvious fact that having a lower CG will plant the car a little more.
The stock suspension isn't too swift especially when compared to some of the aftermarket coilover systems. My car feels 100% better, tighter and dialed in. Its really an incredible difference.
He checked caster/camber etc. and it was good but he suggested I get adjustable a-arms and a rear kit for adjustability in the future. They didn't have a high end 4-way toe alignement system so I will probably have that checked elsewhere sometime in the near future to save a little tire life.

Ounces,
I'm considering a Tein Coilover kit (Basic or SS), flex is probably too hardcore for me. The only downsides I can think of with coilovers are:
a) I'm not 100% sure it will solve the problem... maybe 90% sure.
b) It might create TOO HARSH of a daily driver for me. I can't stand that !
So tell me, how "comfortable" are your coil-overs now that your car rides awesome ? I don't want to feel like I'm on a skateboard over bumps and ****.
Your advice ?

Tein makes a CS also. You might want to talk to Paul at Avalon Racing and discuss your situation with him. He might be able to suggest something.
As far as driveability, I am pleased. People said that it would be too harsh and my teeth would rattle but its simply not the case (not even close). My car is not my DD though and I have not driven it that much with the new coilovers yet. So far though, I am very pleased. I'll post and let you know my feeling later in the week after I drive it some more (planning on driving it to work all week). I would definitiely suggest talking to Paul though.

Slay. I promise you.. PROMISE. Put a set of S0-3's on your car. You will notice a difference. I can tell you this becuase I have had both and noticed a big handling difference. Cons for the S0-3's are that they don't last as long, are noisier, and more pricey. Those 3 things outweighed the handling for me. I also have 10.5/9.5 configuration.
