Default tire weight

hey i was wondering if tire weight makes that big of an effect on performance.. im thinking of going 19x8.5 and 19x10 or 19.9.5 single piece rims, but im worried about the performance suffering.. all i have right now is a CAI and an exhaust... do 19 inch single piece rims make performance suffer greatly? enough to cancel out my modifications?

Tire weight and rim weight make a huge difference in performance. Tire weight makes a bigger difference than rim weight, pound per pound. So go with the narrowest tire (light wt) and smallest diameter rim that you can live with, if performance is an objective. If you get plenty of traction with 265 or whatever, there's no reason to go with 295, etc...

Of course, in general, light weight can compromise tire and wheel stiffness and strength if cost is held constant.

Going with 26lb cast 19" rims and 245/275 tires will cancel out whatever intake and exhaust modifications you've made and some more... I have 19" lightweight wheels and tires, and I did feel noticeable degradation in acceleration. However, I also did feel a noticeable improvement in cornering grip. To each his/her own...
