Default Tire Wear - 2003 Model

My 2003 Performance model had the front tires replaced about 5,000 kilometers ago (3,000 miles) by Nissan, because of the recall about the front alignment problems. An alignment was done at the same time. Now the tires need replacing allready and the dealer says it was because the front was out of alignment again. The Nissan Regional Service Rep is supposed to get back to me this week, but the rear tires (20,000 kilometers or 12,000 miles) also need replacing. The dealer tells me that this is normal wear but a good tire shop has told me they should last double that mileage. Anybody have any similar experience? Wheels and tires (Bridgestone Potenzas) are stock.
Also, I'm thinking of replacing those tires with Pirelli P Zero Rossos or Michelin Pilot Sports - anybody have experience with either tire on their Z?
Thanks

Hi! I need to replace my front tires. Did you get any more information on this? What tires do you recommend for low road noise?
thanks,glen

make sure they do a complete alignment under warranty before you get the new tires! By the way, Toyo T1-S's have low tire noise, not sure how good they perform in canadian type weather though, but they work great in normal rain and of course excellent in good weather. Heard good things about bridgestone s-03 pole positions too.

Hi, I'm having serious issues with the tire recall from my dealer. They're saying that im over the warranty by 20 days and wont replace them!! Any advice on how to work around this or any experience with dealing with them? I brought it in last year, but they said they were on backorder and would get back to me, but the car went into the garage for the winter and i never received any info.

You should look up the nissan corporate 1-800-number listed in one of the posts, do a search. But tell them exactly that, that you waited for the back-ordered tires and name the dealer that didn't contact you for replacement and didn't hear anything till the warranty expired. If nissan is halfway smart, they will honor the warranty and hopefully give that dealer some hell.

I'm pretty sure that if you reported, and nissan confirmed the problem prior to your warranty expiring then they are obligated by law to address that problem...confirm this and find the paperwork they gave to you identifying that they were acknowledging the problem then take it to them with a "fix it or talk to my lawyer" attitude. I hate dealerships that try to stiff you on something just b/c they don't think you know any better.

Never get an alignment before you get new tires. Always after, or the car will be aligned to the worn surface of the old tires. They should be aligned to the surface of the new tires.

Thanks guys,
it all worked out in my favor. I called up the customer service rep and was like im leaving the car with you till the issue is resolved. They called around, Nissan was the one giving the main problem...but they caved and said they would pay for the tires if the dealership or owner would cover the cost of ailgnment and all labor. Since it was the dealers fault, they said they would cover everything that Nissan won't.
Sidetrack...but does anyone have problems with their transmission?

I've got 24000 miles & counting on my 2003 OEM tires. But they are about to go.

I'm replacing them with Toyo T1 Rs next week. (T1 R is new version of T1 S).

I was going Goodyear Eagles but decided I really want to stick with OEM sizes.

Chances are if you had tire problems to begin with, they'll be back soon enough. Sucks! Some people got lucky...like the Rat. I'm on my third set of fronts with only 18k miles. Start a piggy bank...you'll need it.

Transmissions also are a common problem for some Z owners. Search these forums...there is a wealth of knowledge.

I prefer BFGoodrich tires, namely the KDW2's.

I'm not the first owner of my 03, but my rear tires actually wore out before my fronts did. By the way, the stock Bridgestones are crap...

Thanks everyone, I may just look into investing in 18" graphite wheels with new tires, any recommendations? I live in Michigan, roads are pretty well perforated. My old car had at least 4 new rims due to road damage. Just got the car back, new trans is absolute crap...im hoping this gets taken care of too.

Has anyone seen the Nitto Neo Gen in the ads? They advertise that they have increased wear resistance on the sides; right where our tires camber/feather! They advertise that their tires with stand negative camber better than normal tires.
