Default 350z Track rims on G35 (pics)

I've been wanting to get some track rims for some time now. I got these from sbcbaseball with tires for a great price. If I could figure out how to leave positive feedback for the classifieds, I would for him.

I don't want to make the car too flashy. Mainly just wanted three things: lightweight, affordable, and keeping the appearance OEM.

I still have to put 3 center caps on, but I'm painting them to match the finish on the track rims.

On the bathroom scale, the stock front/rear for the G35 18" rims with Pilot Sports were 49/50 lbs. For the track rims with the Re040, it was 44/46.

Well that makes me feel better My wheels now are 46/48.5 ... I thought the track wheels + tires were lighter.

I like the look, but many don't. SickG35 ran my old track rims on his Black coupe for a while a year ago and no one seemed to like em, but I always did.

Al is a good guy, glad he finally found a home for the track wheels. I don't know how to give feedback ... but I know I recieved it somehow .. if you find out .. let me know .. I have a ton to leave for people.

Jim

Yeah, I don't know if we have to be a premium member or something to leave feedback.

sbcbaseball, you were right about the car being faster with these rims. I drive around with a big smile on my face with the increased acceleration. Thanks again, man.

I already posted the purchase price on g35driver, so I'll just say it. It was $1000 with tires. The tires had about 70% tread left. I picked them up, since the seller was only about 45 minutes away, so that saved a bit on shipping.

I saw that auction on ebay. Keep in mind, $750 is not even meeting the reserve price.

I bet you can feel a big difference in accel. Many people underestimate how much rotational mass makes a difference. They spend $$$ on 5 hp mods and then switch to heavy wheels and tires.

You lost a total of 8lbs off the rear wheels, thats even better than lightening the flywheel by 8lbs. HUGE difference in drivetrain loss.

The weight savings is great. That's why I didn't go with 19s, even though they look great on our cars. Even if the 19" rim itself is lighter, the 19" tires are going to be heavy. The RE040 are pretty heavy already in 245/45/18. When these eventually wear out, I'll go with lighter tires. I think I saw on tirerack.com, that the Pilot Sports are 2 lbs lighter than the RE040 in 245/45/18.

As for the brakes, I bought the components here and there over time. The front calipers were from ebay, but I don't know exactly which car they came from. They came with red powdercoat with white brembo logos. The front rotors are just generic ones. The rear calipers are OEM brembos that I painted red with G2 paint, then spray painted the logo back on in white. I also got the rears off a seller on ebay ($500 for both rears, new). The rear rotors are stoptech 2-piece rotors from avalonracing.

I suggest 245/40/18 all around in Kumho MX. No VDC/TCS problems and it feels very balanced. Good traction, good price, and they only weigh 25lbs. Only side effect is that they like to scream at their limit (I actually prefer this).
