Good point... I hadn't thought of the ABS side of things when it comes to tire diameter differences. Are the numbers you listed above supposed to be in inches? For example, the rear tires can be no less than 1/2" bigger and no more than 3/4" bigger than the fronts? (You said you weren't sure on those numbers, so I'm just using them as examples, also.) It would be very good to have these numbers for future reference.

For what it's worth, here are some numbers I just calculated out:

stock 18" tires
front: 25.97" diameter
rear: 26.68" diameter
This makes the rears almost 3/4" larger than the fronts.

stock 17" tires
front: 25.86" diameter
rear: 26.25" diameter
This makes the rears just under 1/2" bigger than the fronts.

As an interesting comparison, here is a common aftermarket size we're seeing on the 350Z (275/40/18 rear and 245/40/18 front):
front: 25.72" diameter
rear: 26.66" diameter
This makes the rear diameter almost 1" bigger!

The only size available in 19" is the 19x8. However, AXIS will offer their new MAXIS look which is the same width, yet has different lip front and rear for the "effect" of a larger width in the rear.

You can safely run a 275 in the rear on an 8" rim.

If you are still interested, we can put a package together. The ideal tire sizes are 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear, you can get away with as much as 295 in the back.

265-35-19:
Sidewall: 3.7 in
Diameter: 26.3in

275-35-19
Sidewall: 3.8 in
Diameter 26.6in (this is too big ANYWAY!)
Revs/min: 759 (not right either)

 

Good luck finding that tire size.....I was looking for that size a while back and could not find a single tire manufacturer that currently made a 265/35/19.

If I remember correctly, I think those were the numbers. I'd have to verify this to be 100% sure though. But from your calculation, the numbers appear reasonable.

I have been wondering about the TCS and wheel changes. This has been a small headache for the NSX folks. Once you know the exact range, selecting tire/wheel combos aren't too big a hassle. Just have to do the calculations.

I wouldn't put anything larger than 255 on an 8" wheel. I don't think I would trust much the guy that wrote that email says. 295 on an 8" wheel The Yoko AVS Sport in 255/40ZR19 would fit nicely.

I think I agree with you Apexi350z. That's probably what I'm going to do after reading all of this and from some of the other threads. But is there any point to going with these sizes rather than just sticking with the stock sizes? I want a wider tire with a lower profile look that will look better than the RE040's currently under my Z. Will this do it?

The 275 will fit and will work on an 8" rim. It is not necessarily ideal, but will not cause problems. The tire will definitely NOT come off of the wheel.

The wheels will be ready to ship out in the second or third week of this month. Since you are buying tires locally, we will probably be able to ship out: next week or a few days after that, we are awaiting customs clearance

I can't find a spec other than the stock tire sizes the car is shipped with, but according to the shop manual:


If tire size and type are used in an improper combination, or brake pads are not Genuine NISSAN parts,
stopping distance or steering stability may deteriorate.


If the following components are replaced with non-genuine components or converted, the VDC OFF indi-cator
lamp and SLIP indicator lamp may turn on or the VDC system may not operate properly. Compo-nents related to suspension (Shock Absorber, Strut, Spring, Bush, etc.), Tires, wheels (exclude specified size), components related to brake (Pad, Rotor, Caliper, etc.), Components related to engine (Muffler, ECM, etc.), Components related to body reinforcement (Roll bar, Tower bar, etc.).

wadd, you may also have trouble finding a tire shop that will install them. Most don't want the liability.

 

I bought from America's too but my rims are 8.5 all around and I have 275 in the rears and love it. They had the air pressure at 35 and I lowered it to 32 and it handles excellent.

I know everyone will say it needs to be a 9 inch rim but the Company sent my rims mounted and balanced and a rep from America's Parent Company enmailed me personally that it will be fine.

Bottom line they handle better than the stock 17's with Potenza's
(especially at high speed cornering) and I am keeping them.

Crap I ran 315 Nitto DR's on my FireHawk with the air pressue at 16 hot and ran a 12.1 on Nitrous!

I think people tend to over react about these types of things. I like my 8.5 275's and I am keeping them regardless

Also, I am NOT buying tires from this guy. I told him in the last email that all i want is the rims. I will be having a friend of mine get tires cheaper and install them PERSONALLY. He is a tiresplus manager and is also confident there is NO problem.

He said if there is, we can just rip them off and run a thinner tire. NO problem!

 

It will look wider, but not by much, 10mm...This would be the safest bet if you are going to upsize your tires with stock 18" rims. I am still tempted to do 275 in the rear though

 

are priced as such for good reason. you figure it out.

 

i just checked discounttire.com and they say you can go up to 275/35-20 which is referred to as a 'plus two' tire size. this spec is for the performance model. check out the site for more info.

 

I met a dude at a show this weekend that fit 19"x 9" rims with 245's on the front and 19x10"!!! with 275's on the rear!!!It looked nice..I have 18x8 -225 and 18x9" with 245's on the rear of mine..

 

Not to get anyones boxer briefs in a bunch but I just got off the phone with Amity Nissan parts dept. and he told me the 18 inch rims on the performance 350 are 18x 8 up front and 18x 8.5 in the rear...he also told me the cost for both are the same $1430.00 each for the rims only. Can anyone get an offical answer from Nissan..after all they did build the damn car and should know. I am not discounting what anyone has said here about this issue...all I am saying is that its not black and white at this point.

 

My rims are after market not stock, and that info I gave is wrong. My rims are 9 inches wide.
