Default Winter Tire ?

I have an '03 base Z (with the 17" wheels) and need snow tires since they never plow well around here. I have the chance to buy some Dunlop Winter Sport M3 for a reasonable price and need some info. The tires are all the same size 225/50/HR17. Would this work on the base Z? I know the factory ones are staggered, but will it work if the snow tires are not? I don't have any traction control or anything to worry about throwing off, but what about the ABS system? I am somewhat snow tire ignorant so any help would be appreciated. I also tried a search but didn't find much on sizes and what not. Anyone who can help please do. Thanks

Those are great tires, but you need to stagger the sizes so that the ABS/traction control works properly. Buy 2 or buy the whole set, but be sure to get the correct size for the rear tires (assuming you are using these for the front).

I too looking for new/used winter tires for my OEM 17's.
Is it OK/Safe to use 225 50 R17's all 4 corner???
or do I need 235 50 R17 on back? I do not want to drive with my Z with stock tires (Other than my summer tires Potenza so3).

Could some Z guys help me out with wheel and tire size for the Winter tires

for 17" go with 225/50 - front and 225/55 rear. also 235/50 for the rear is ok.

I just bought a set of Dunlop WinterSport M3s for my 05 Touring. I dropped from the factory's 18"s to a set of 17"s for the winter season. Got 225/50 (Front) - 225/55 (Rear), along w/ some cheap ASA rims.
So far the tires are pretty good on cold, dry streets. The snow haven't accumulated yet so no comments there.
But I am very surprised with the look of the tires on the Z. With the wide, deep grooves it makes the Z look a little more rugged, I kinda like it.
I haven't really noticed any obnoxious tire noise or serious performance degradation.

I've been running Pirelli P210's in those same sizes on Mille Miglia wheels. They've done a great job the past 2 winters, though they aren't made in those sizes anymore. My next snow tires will be the M3s.

For snow tires, thin is in. A spare set of 7-inch wide wheels with snow tires sounds like a winner to me.

This is for all the people that are going to be using the Z in the SNOW... DON'T!!!!!!! I had the car for 2 winters now this will be the 3rd. In the middle of 2nd winter i ended up buying a jeep just because i was afraid for my life. My cuz who has the g coupe just uses an old civic that hes got because theses cars simply dont drive in snow. I dont have winter tires and im sure they are a lot better then stock but if you are planing to drive in snow with the Z or G be peppered to drive a sled.

It is the tires.

Yes. You will die, or have many near death experiences, if you drive the stock tires in snow, sleet, or ice.

For those of us that are looking or have bought the winter tires setup, the Z is our daily driver. Sure, if I still had my Wrangler, I'd take that and leave the Z in the garage until Spring. But I think the Z's fairly safe with the proper tires. If anyone think they can drive the Z in the snow/winter like they would during a hot summer day, then they probably deserve to lose the Z and need to get another type of vehicle. Again, with the proper setup and precautions, the Z is safe for winter driving.

I'm very glad that you DON'T drive this car in the snow without snow tires--you'd be endangering the lives of people all around you. This car is very good in the snow with proper tires. It reminds me people who try to walk on a snowy sidewalk with smooth plastic bottom shoes, and then making a blanket clamin that it's not possible to walk in the snow without falling. Depends on your shoes.
