It's a wonderful looking wheel, but IMO the 39 and +41 offset are too sunken in looking. That's why I didn't get them. And the fact that they're heavier than the stock 18's by several lbs. Only semi forged (The middle piece..the other 2 pieces are just cast).

Hmm... the 19's are heavier... are the 18's heavier, too?

What about the GT1's? Are they lighter, heavier, or about the same as stock 18's? They look to be one piece... don't really want to add any weight on the wheels and I do like the GT1s also...

Luke,

Are the GT1s available in brushed aluminum finish with the same offsets for the Z?

Will they also accomodate the tire pressure sensors?

May decided to go with GT1s if there is a big weight savings over the GT3s...

Quack! I'm answering my own questions and asking new ones today...

Okay, I found a site that lists the 18" GT1s around 19-20lbs a piece and the 19" GT3s at 25llbs a piece.

So... what exactly to the stock 18" (non-Rays) wheels weigh?

And for Luke... would the GT1s have a lip? Definitely want the spokes of the wheel sunken in a bit...

again... a little research and I have my own answers...

Stock 18" rims are said to weigh in at 26lbs, stock 17" = 23lbs, and Rays 18" approximately 18lbs.

Compared with the GT3s (wheels only), it is about an even trade. I don't think GT3s are offered in an 18" size... someone correct me if I'm wrong.

If I go GT1s matching stock size of 8" width, they weigh 19lbs, or 7lbs less than stock a piece!

Am I correct in understanding that this would be on par with about a 10hp increase?

Even if I go as wide as 9" on the back, I would still save 24lbs total with GT1s.

I like the GT3s a little better appearance-wise, but not so much over the GT1s to ignore a 20lb+ weight savings on the wheels.

Hmmm... tirerack lists available sizes for GT3's as 18" and 19". unless there's some kind of mistake on their website. if not, I'd still like to know how much the weigh.

hmm.. true that... checked a few of the websites I found that post tire weights, but cannot find a weight listing for the 18" GT3s.

Luke... do you know? and what about mounting the tire sensors on the GT1s?

Mcduck...It seems to me the you're on the fence about what wheel you want to purchase. Whatever you do make up your own mind. Personally I didn't care about the GT3's being a little heavier...They look good, and they meet my needs...I'm not a racer...but even if you put 22's on the Z it'll still be faster than 90% of the car's you'll encounter on the highway. I too was swayed by the members of this board before I made my choice. I didn't listen to them and I'm enjoying my wheels. No disrepect to anyone, but you're the only one that has to look at your car everyday. Pick the wheels that you like most. Period...Luke may be ignoring all your questions... Can you blame him. You're on the fence..Luke pulling you one way and the weight-watchers are pulling you the other. It's your car...

Yeah... I am kind of on the fence, but only between the GT1 and GT3... either way, the business will likely be going to Luke or someone he recommends.

I like both wheels... basically, the split 5-spoke is what does it for me. I'm trying to weigh the pros and cons between the two to make my final decision. As I see it, here's what I have to consider...

GT1s
  • PRO - one-piece wheel... much lighter than both the GT3 and my stock 18s
  • PRO - less expensive than the GT3
  • ??? - Does it come in an offset that fits the Z?
  • ??? - Is the GT1 available with the same lip as a GT3? (meaning they have to be cast that way since it is a one-piece wheel)
  • ??? - Luke stated the GT3s are now being made to accomodate the tire pressure sensor. True also for the GT1s?
  • ??? - Can the GT1s be had in silver like jrreed's GT3s? (like this because it matches the door handles)

GT3s
  • PRO - not a fan of rivets, but like it on this wheel. Think it looks just a tad bit better than the GT1s
  • PRO - know it comes in correct offset, with attractive looking lip, etc from pics posted on my350z.com
  • CON - weight... much heavier than the GT1, but still marginally lighter than stock wheels

So, as you can see... I'm really just looking for information on the GT1s so I can finalize my decision. If the GT1 does NOT come in the correct offset or does NOT accomodate the tire pressure sensor, it's not even debatable (not as concerned about the lip).

Those factors being equal, I must decide whether weight or look is more important to me.
