you have to listen for the subtle difference, especially when I slow down at the end. under 40mph is louder than over 60. go figure. and remember, alignment will make it better/worse. Mine was dead on when I made the vid

stock 18, 225/245 +30. I would imagine lowered with more camber would be a bit louder, but I dont know that for sure.

I made the vid (on the same day as getting the tires mounted) because I had heard about the noise and thought it would be nice to get a compro. Lemme just say, the tires performace and price point totally outweigh the noise for me. But there's no denying they tend to roar at low speeds for me. Maybe not for a Z, but I suspect its gonna be the same or slightly worse (if you had any feathering).

However, if you live in an area that has frequent heavy downpours, I dont know of another UHP tire that slices thru deep water like these do. Very impressive in that regard. After having a hydroplane incident (no accident thankfully) on OEMs, that was my top priority and they deliver.

 

I'm no expert but this is what I've come up with in regards to tires & etc. the tire height is important...30 is not good as 35 for performance. In other words this is what I want to go with & when I'm ready. front 8.5 245/35/19 +20 offset. Rear 9.5 275/35/19 +15. I understand that the /35/ is way better than /30/ I think it causes more pressure on the tire with a /30/!! just my 2 cents worth! take care...

 

sorry +30 is my offset. they are stock 45 series.

+15/+20, assuming lowered on 245/275, I think youre going to hear the KDW NTs more than on that vid. *but* finding any quiet UHP tire isnt exactly easy

 

Got the tires mounted and I love them!!! Can't wait till there is a nice dry day for me to really push them. They did pretty well also the other night driving home from Denver and it was snowing. Though they are not a snow tire... I found them to be still pretty grippy. I didn't drive the Z w/ them after the snow had a chance to stick to the road. All-in-all I'm very happy with them.

 

Please keep us posted...especially the loudness if very noticeable.

tware...what is your tire pressure at?...I heard if it's too high, it will cause loudness too.

 

I haven't notice any "loudness" from the tires. IMHO they are quieter and my tire pressure is at 35lbs each tire.

 

THANKS!....Another member some time ago was complaining about the loud tire sound...he had his at 43psi. I think the way yours are set... that might be the answer to a better tire sound!

 

I go by the vehicle recommanded pressure. My local Discount tire had them set at 29 and with it be so cold they dropped to 25-26 and the TPMS Was going crazy. lol

 

my tire pressure is 35. I've tried a few psi +/-. You cant really look at a tire design like that and assume its going to be quiet. It's simply not designed for low noise. What does vary is what people notice. I do not notice the tire noise when I'm the only one driving. I notice it with a passenger. The vid pretty much says it all. Its not roaring badly. Its just a distinct noise some people would notice.

I would buy them again without hesitation. My earlier comment was more about hearing some really good comments about some other tires. They are still a very good purchase. Alot of people rag on BFG. My tire shop did, alot. But thats pretty unfounded with these KDWs. Or at least I think so..

 

Had the KDW-2's for a couple of months now and they are great. All this talk about noise is BS. They'll be a bit slippery for the first few hundred miles, but after that...

 

I tend to make things up or some people are deaf. buy them and decide for yourself.

In about 3 months when the fronts are gone, i'll be purchasing some 245/40 for the front, same KDW, i love these tires

As far as noise, I really can't tell the difference between these and the previous ones i had, the Falken Azenis ST-115, which are made specifically for less noise...

fyi, not the smartest thing to do, but I drove on these all winter (in the south). We got down to the low 20Fs at times, The KDWs never really gave me cause for concern. I could tell they were pretty, errrr, stiff at 25F.. or even 40F, but as far as handling, even in wet, they were very predictable. I had some all seasons laying around and the KDWs never really made me want to switch back. Of course I was mindful of the summer tire rating and didnt ****-out in the cold, but again, they were really sticky for a tire not made for sub-50F.
