Hey I was looking at these chrome 20'' American Racing Wheels that I can get for not much money. But it says 28lbs per wheel. Is that too heavy for 20" chrome wheels? How would this affect performance? What do you think of the appearance of the wheel? They are staggered 20x8.5 and 20x10

Man if you like them that is all that matters. 28 lbs. is not really that heavy for 20's, but you are increasing your rolling mass a great deal. There will be a noted drop in performance.
my honest opinion you can get better wheels for that price if you are concerned with performance. The way I say it Thrill get what YOU want not what others want as it is YOUR car not ours......good luck

If you are dropping $2000+ I would look for some used 19" Volks or something...
Those will kill not only appearance of the car (they literally DO look like SUV wheels) but also performance. 28 lb. isn't much for a 20" wheel compared to 26lb for a stock 18 touring, but it is a lot compared to a 19lb. 19" Volk.

Or you can satisfy two of your three needs.
Chrome Looking and Lightweight rims. Unfortunately cheap does not equate into this scenario but then again you can't really get all three together unless you sacrifice one of the above for weak construction.
Here are mine. 5zigen 19" Hyper Zr's in SMB(superMetallicBlack) I like looks and performance.

You could find used volks for a little over 2K, but something has to be sacrificed! You need to decide what the most important aspect of wheels for yourself! For instance, myself, I wanted #1 Volks, #2 Wide azz rims (9.5R and 10.5R), #3) diamond black w/polished lip, #4)Offsets that kept the tires flush, and last but not least on my list was the actual rim design!! I got lucky and found GT-Vs (Originally looking for GT-7's) in my area with the exact specs! I am completely satisified, particulary because they are one of the newer Volk designs=less people having them. In So Cal, we have a ton of Z's all tricked out!
Do you research and you won't be sorry!
Those American racing rims are nice looking, but they are a bit heavy and a bit big if you are looking at performance! 20" volks are going to sacrifice some performance as well, so how much are YOU willing to lose, performance wise? Do u track your car? Hope this helps any!

I mean from normal newtonian phyics, you should be more concerned about radius than mass for rolling intertia... Inertia for a disk w/ unified mass (sorta but not a wheel)= 1/2 (mass)(radius)^2.... the greater the number the harder it is to accelerate or decelerate the wheel..
