Falken Tire Question
Okay I am nearing the dreaded tire change, and I have done some research on prices and stuff. I have found that the Falkens are significantly cheaper (around 90-100 per) than Goodyear, Michelin, Pirelli, etc.... Now I have heard from some locals that they are sh$t, and I have also heard they are fantastic on dry and bad in rain. Does anybody own a set that can vouch either way? I want quality tires but if I can save a buck or two I am definitely gonna do it. Also, do they make an all season tire that may be better all around? Finally, my main concern is longevity. I would like to get 20k miles if possible. Thanks.

The falken fk451 is an excellent tire. good in the rain and in the dry. You would probably get 20k on the front and 15k on the rears. I owned a set of just about every modern performance tire made and these are above average. This is the tire that the #1 STX car at the 2004 solo national championships was on (shaved of course).

I had the Nitto NT-555 on my 350Z. And they are a pretty decent tire. The thread life is not good for our rears. I went through the rears tires with daily driving for 15,000 miles. They are a pretty soft compound tire in my opinion. In dry conditions these tires are great. But in wet conditions my rear end tends to not grip as well under acceleration. Overall this is a great summer tire in my opinion.

the Falken FK ia about 60% percent the price when compared to the pilot. I think it's a better deal over all. The Pilot might last a tiny bit longer but the grip is similar in wet and dry. I honestly think this is a case where you pay for the name.

around 2K miles on the FK451s and my opinion is that it's a good deal on an above average Y rated tire. Tire noise isn't really too bad IMO and the treadwear is 280 I think (the diameter of the tire is larger than most so you get more more rubber). Not the best summer tire; the rubber is hard and breaks loose easily but then again that can be fun sometimes No real need for a stickier tire on a stock Z I guess. I say go with the Falkens and save yourself some of that hard earned $$
