Lightbulb How much did you really save?

A couple of recent posts have made me wonder... Why? Did you really save enough $$ to offset the problems you are having? I've received enough flak for puchasing expensive HREs so its my turn to shoot back.

Wadd, your spy engineering deal, was it worth it? Bent rims! Not worth getting a return? Spacers? Is it because of the time between receiving the wheels and mounting tires to the discovery of the defect? I'm sorry for your dilema, but bent rims aren't worth ****. When I get around to mounting my wheels, if in the off chance anything is f'd up you damn will bet that they will go back & get fixed without a second thought by either party.

McDan, 4 tires, two are to small for the rear wheels at 1/2 price, gotta get two more to be right = good deal? At least they can be used on the front later. (I always wear out the fronts first.) Now go back to that supplier and advise them they did you wrong and need to compensate by setting you up with some 275s for 1/2 off and keep the extras.

Wadd, McDan, please forgive me for using you as my examples. My intention of this post is to bring to light the fact that every one of us has our own concept of what is a good deal and how much ******** we are willing to endure.

My thought is that any ******** is to much!

Respectfully
Brian

WOW, that was a little harsh, but I guess you were treated the same way.

the point are valid though, I was trying to find a less expensive way to get a good set of wheels/tires for the car as well. BUT, when I added everything up (pros/cons), and looked at the prices, I realized that I would only pay about $500 for a set of 4 iForged wheels VS a cheap set of wheels. That $500 can be a lot of $$, but stepping back and looking at it, I realized that I would regret it later, and wish I "only" paid $500 more on a $34k car (which isn't a lot). I am BY NO means saying that people should run out to buy $1500/wheel, but look around, do your research, and measure the +s VS -s of paying a bit more and getting EXACTLY what you want (after all wadd may like the axis se7en MORE than ANYOTHER wheel out there, and he didn't want to pay $1500/wheel for the 3 piece, which I can't blame him, so maybe he was doing all he could to get the "look" he wanted and not pay and arm and leg for it).

I have recently changed my thinking, I got to thinking of getting something that fits PERFECT, looks good (to me), relatively cheap, AND is LIGHTWEIGHT is very important and I ended up getting the iForged 2-piece. I am getting them in a custom offset (to my liking), custom design (NO bolts/rivots around the parameter, I like them simple and plus it makes them lighter in wt), custom finish, and custom lip. I figure since I am going after a light wt wheel I might as well go with a lighter tire as well, even though they cost a little more (toyo TS1, which is 4.2 lbs lighter PER WHEEL Vs SO-3).

So I went from buying a relatively cheap wheel (heavy), adding spacers (more wt), adding longer lugs to fit spacers (more wt) and running SO-3s (which are fine tires, don't get me wrong, BUT are much heavier than Toyos).....TO.....Running a totally custome iForged wheel (light) withoUT bolts (even lighter) and Toyo tires (very light). I bet I end up saving 7-10 lbs PER WHEEL (wheels 3-5 lbs, tires 4.2 lbs, PLUS lugs and spacers), and I get he exact wheel/tire I want for about $3000 VS $2400 for the other alternatives. (I like the idea of a light wt wheel like the Rays, BUT with a 19" design and an aggressive lip, so I am happy with my choice, I bet it turns out 4-5 pound lighter than my stock 18" touring wheels)

everything is relative, I can't see me buying wheels over $700 per, BUT I found exactly what I wanted though some intense research and being willing to pay a little bit extra cash in the long run.

btw, should get my wheels next week or soon after that.

I sort of feel sorry for Wadd, I have been there soooooooo many times trying to get the best deal and feeling like you hit a dead end with EVERY route you take. I am glad that everything worked out for him (I even called some of my people to see if I could get a couple tires for him when he was looking, but no luck), and he likes the look and it rides good as well. I can't wait to see pics of his car, I think the wheels he bought are a good looking wheel (regardless of price) so I bet it looks great.

Words of wisdom passed on from my father.

You either get what you pay for or you get screwed. You never get something for nothing.

yeah a tad harsh but im used to it.

As I have said on SEVERAL occasions they are NOT bent. The rims are in nearly 100% round and a couple didtn even require to be BALANCING when mounted !!!

The lip on a few were slighly out our round. You cant see this on the car when the tires are on, and it doesnt effect ANYTHING but mounting. I mentioned the issues with mounting just for simple conversation and story telling purposes. It was a HOOT that it took 4 guys 3.5hrs to do it!!

They look fantastic and I get complements from EVERY single person who has seen them, people in traffic and people going 90mph down the highway. Im VERY pleased with the wheel and I got exactly what I wanted for what I had to use in cash.

Im no doctor, pilot, lawyer, or whatever 1/2 you guys are... Im a guy who busts my *** to have what i have. 2 jobs put me where I am and I am proud of that. I dont need 3k-4k rims at this point in my life.

If you could, please dont respond to this post bitter or angry. I am neather, and I dont think you should be either

PS_ Rod, I appreciate the support
