Rota P45R's Thread
They've been out for quite some time. Couple reasons you don't see them here on the forum is because wheeldude hasn't offered them and they don't quite fit into the hellaflush crowd. The 18x12 is very hard to come by in the states I believe, but I've seen them for sale on websites based in the UK.

I had to wait over a year to receive mine and it wasn't cheap
They are marketed as GTR-D in the UK market
P45Rs 18x9.5 +20 all around.
245/40R18 and 275/40R18
But DAMN, this setup create way too much understeering! I'm a pretty aggressive driver and I need to take some curve 10-20 miles/h slower than before, and it still have understeering.
Now I understand why the P45Fs are made for the Front... they are 18x8 +48mm I believe... so there are still narrower a .5 on both side in the front.
Why did you choose 10mm offset for the rear? Did you notice the same understeering issue?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Looks very nice, but handling SUCKS, and it is pretty much dangerous.
I have exactly the same setup now... ie:
P45Rs 18x9.5 +20 all around.
245/40R18 and 275/40R18

If anything you should have MUCH less understeer with
those 9.5s up front and EQUAL wheel widths all around.
Tell ya what you can do...put an upgraded sway on the rear..better yet, (if you can) add stiffer rear springs as well. Do that and you'll have a nice *tail happy*
car.

I have Hotchkis Sway bars in both front and rear. Never had any issue until I switched from Kazera to all around P45Rs 18x9.5 +20 on the same tire size.
I need to do an alignment though... so it might help but I'm thinking of adding spacers in the rear at the same time. (even before the alignment, I had 4 bold tires and a twisted wheel and I did not have any under steering)
Yep... I can't take a curve, the front just doesn't want to turn at midpoint.

There are a few variables you should consider. You actually have grip now, you are running different size wheels and tires, you haven't checked your alignment. I'm also running Hotchkis sways front and rear with this wheel and tire combo and the car handled very well and was predictable at last weekend's autocross event. Report back after the alignment and also tell us what your settings are on the Hotchkis sway bars. Do you have adjustable endlinks with them?
Do you know your settings for your Hotchkis setup? You would not recommend the +10mm spacer to help the front a bit?
Thanks for the feedback! - I will get you updated after the alignment is done.
I do think I have the adjustable endlinks, I will have to double check. I will make sure they do a 4 wheels alignment since the rear suspension might have been affected.

Just to clarify on the +10mm spacer. I would add it to the rear and not the front. That isn't your problem though. There has to be something out of spec with your alignment.

What springs are you running and what rates? I can tell you, stiffer rear springs will really wake up your tail end. In fact, I just REDUCED my rear spring rates because the tail was snapping out on powering down in turns.
My front Hotchkis bar is set on hole #2 (second from the end) and the rear is set on hole #2 as well (middle hole on the rear bar).

Yes I was referring to the rear for the spacer, to counter under steering a bit. I prefer a lot more over steering from my years in karting. But as you said I don't think +10mm would do much.
I'm doing this on Thursday so I will see how it goes.
Adding a REAR spacer will increase the track and actually increase understeer (if that's really what you have). Set the front bar at the first hole (farthest out) and the rear bar at the 3rd hole (last one).

I'm not sure about the spring rate, but I know they are pretty stiff enough with our mexican kind of road where I live. On a track it would be different but it's my daily car.
You are right regarding your reduction of your rear if it was bumping into the corners.
Now I'm not sure about the sway bars setting... I will see what I currently have, do an alignment on the 4 wheels and see how it goes. If it's not OK, I will try new things and re-do another alignment.
I better pay for 3 alignments (if necessary) over getting myself into an accident

To get a baseline and idea of what's actually going on, what were your previous wheel & tire specs (front & rear wheel diameter/width/offset, tire model)? You mentioned you are running the same 245/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rear tire sizes, are you running the same tire model also?
There are so many variables that could attribute to poor handling. Just to note, a 245/40/18 front and 275/40/18 rear tire setup will naturally understeer at the limit, this is because the car has more mechanical grip in the rear.

Now it's 18x9.5 +20mm all around on the same (new) Falkens tires.
I did the alignment on the 4 wheels and it was MUCH needed. It fixed all the issues... no more VDC going off or under steering.
Also, the front tires had only about 100 miles on them... and they did not reach their grip potential until now. It was cold here so it took longer than anticipated.
Now I'm running full speed and it handles great... so thanks you all for your feedback!
Any comments about running 18x9.5 +22 offset all around with 255/40 in the front and 275/40 in the rear? So far I am on stock suspension. I have the Hotchkis sways to install. Somewhat off topic, not in the susension thread, but should I also consider lowering it some with RS*TR Ti2000 springs?
Yes, except the front wheels were 18x9, rear 18x9.5 (no offset)

Lowering it would definitley make it look better.
OK, thanks. I already have the wheels, so I see a set of spacers would be in order. I have not changed the camber settings yet on the front. I guess this will help as well.
Why not get 18x10.5 in the rear? But yes, the setup you mentioned will work. You might end up getting spacers for the conservative offsets though. I'm running 19x9.5 and 19x10.5 +22 all around and I could sure use 10mm spacers all around.
Lowering it would definitley make it look better.
