What are the Pros and cons going with a wider rim and tire?
The obvious benefit is better traction. The less obvious drawback is increased rolling resistance. That means more power lost, worse gas mileage, etc.
Depending on brand, wider tires may weigh more than the ones you replace. That would hurt performance as it increases the rotational inertia of the wheels. Of course, if you get lighter tires, then there is a slight performance gain.
Naturally, wider tires will cost you more too.
