I just got some new tires put on my car. I have an 04 Touring with the 18" 5 spoke rims that are smooth round (not the kind with the flat spots. They put 225/45R18 91W all around and pretty sure they rotated them.

The sticker on the inside of the door says 225/50 18 up front and 235/50 18 in the rear.

It was my understanding the rims on the front and back were of different sizes, and on top of that you can't rotate them. How can I find out if they put the wrong sizes on them?

 

Stock 18s are 225/45R18 Front and 245/45R18 Rear

If they are all the same size, you can rotate them.

Since you have a Touring model, your car came with VDC/TCS. Having the same size tires all around will probably cause problems with VDC/TCS - the slip light will come on under various conditions. You either need staggered tire sizes (225 in front, 245 in rear) or you'll need to drive with the VDC off button depressed.

 

Look at the sticker again it either says 225/50/17 & 235/50/17 or 225/45/18 & 245/45/18. I bet you have a 5AT, and that vehicle came originally with 17" wheels.

And as Mr. Moderator says, VDC will not like it. The car was designed around the stagger.

Yeah, my bad. It does say FRONT: 225/50 17, REAR: 235/50 17.

So are the 225's all around going to screw up my car or what?

 

The car won't implode or anything.

But it's not optimal that's for sure.

Most people, when they get new tires, will go with a wider thread than OEM.

 

May not screw up the car, but the electronics will not like it, and it will screw up the driving experience. You have a Sports Car for gosh sakes, treat it like one. Sorry, some time I get passionate

Agree. VDC prefers that the rear tires be about 10mm taller than the front. VDC is a complicated system incorporating TCS and ABS. I recommend that you put the proper size tire on the correct wheels.
