Been noticing this on the japanese tuner cars they run a lower series in the rear. How can you get away without looking funny? In this case the 275/35 is 4mm smaller diameter than the front.

For more extreme examples, just look at the Tomei and Central 20 cars:
http://www.jdm-option.com/eng/featur...2/z33_v35.html

They run 245/40F and 265/35R for an 11.5mm difference. I initially thought the tire in the front was being stretched to the point that it's diameter was MOL equal or shorter than the rear, but according to tirerack, diameter stays the same regardless of rim width. What's going on here?

well the sidewall difference between 245/40 and 265/35 is so small that you would hardly notice unless you really tried...

Not to hijack the thread but I found this interesting on the G35 coupe shown in the group of cars.

·SUSPENSION & BRAKES
Tein Super Racing Prototype (FR 16kg) / Nismo Swaybars / M35 4WD Front Upper Arm / Nismo Prototype Bushings / F: Brembo N1 Caliper + 355mm Rotor / Nismo Brake Pads

I wonder what would motivate them to use the M35 front upper arm?

I've never thought it's looked funny.

It's more obvious to see a difference between the 245/40 & 275/40 versus the 245/40 & 275/35

The reason I recommend the 275/35 is because its only 0.1 inch different in diameter versus the 245/40

Whereas the 275/40 is 1.0 inch different in diameter versus the 245/40

So technically if you run the 275/40, your speedo is gonna be off by something like 7mph iirc?

If you're concerned about speedo error, the stock rear 18" tire is 245/45, so the closer match is the 275/40:

245/45-18=677.7mm
275/40-18=677.2mm
275/35-18=649.7mm

I guess if you are able to lower the rear more than the front, same height tires look (or even function) better, but if you put that combo on a factory suspended Z, just going by the numbers, you'd be adding 27.5mm, over an inch to the already large gap. Maybe that is overcome by pushing the offset out, making it look like the wheel well is fuller than it is?

I would also expect ABS, VDC and TCS to be affected by such a reverse stagger.

And I'm not being critical of your recommendation, because visually I agree with you, just trying to gain a better understanding of what's going on here.

I am switching my entire wheel setup this week due to my rears rubbing with the 275/40/18. Going with 245/35/18 fronts and 275/35/18 rears. Hope this setup fixes the rear rubbing issue. And I decided not to roll my rear fenders.

Based on what Logan recommends and what the Japanese spec series cars are wearing, you might want to try switching out just the rears to the 275/35 first and see how you like it.

I would love to switch just the rears. Unfortunately, the place I am getting the tire swap does not have the Nitto NeoGens in that size. So, I am forced to swap the rears and fronts with the a different brand of tire.

As stated in my previous post my rear tires are rubbing. That is why I am switching to a different setup.

I must have missed that... I wonder if 245/45 and 275/40 would be a better set up for those at stock height or <1" of drop. In order to get the best combo of ride/grip/etc. Plus they fill the wheel wells much better than all 40's or 35's.

So the 285/35 did not rub in the rear at all...stock or lowered?

Thanks.

Just do a google search there are a lot of online stores that sell them.

I have the same rotors too. I get a swooshing noise from the rear when breaking. No biggie to me really.

PS....I think you might have changed my mind about which wheels I was getting. Those xD9's are bad ***.

I was looking all over the place to get a pricing on these wheels, and didn't find squat. You have a link to purchase? What's the going rate on them in the size you have?
