Default tire size

i went to discount tire to get some new tire and decide to go with a wider tire
i have a 2003 350z touring 6 speed with stock 18 inch rims,i believe the front rims are 18x8 in the front and 18x8.5 in the rear if i'm right.the tires on it are
225 45 18 in front and 245 45 18 in the rear, i was going to go 235 40 18 in the front and 265 40 18 in the rear but the guy a discount tire said it wouldn't work and another discount tire shop said it would ,let me know what you guys think

Your wheels are 8" all the way around. The 06 wheel is 8.5" in the rear, but not the earlier 6 spoke wheel. 265s are too wide for an 8" wheel. I know some done it, but you will have severe tire bulge, and, IMO, is not the right thing to do. If you are staying with the stock wheel, you can do 245/40/18 in front and 255/45/18 in the rear. This will maintain the stagger, give you a little more meat front and back, slightly reduce the understeer, and will fit your stock rims.

Oh, and go with the first guy you talked to, he knows his business.

Use a tire calculator and compare the OEM tires with the new tires. Are they the same height? If yes then you are OK.

My friend, as I stated above, it's not that easy. Wheel width is as important as overall diameter when choosing tires for any application.

I put 255/40/18s on my rear stockers....still have 225/45/18s on the front. No VDC issues or tire bulge...looks perfect. Keep in mind that the sidewall height will increase as the tire's width increases (the reason I went from a 45 series to a 40 series on the rear tires). When the fronts get worn, I might go to a 235/40/18 instead of the 225/45s

I've been running a 235/45/18 and 245/45/18 combo, but I like a little taller tire, helps with potholes ect.
