I went there today but the last one they had was leaking oil and the reviews (only 4) online wasn't appealing. but it's on sale for $65, until 5/5/07

go get one on sale at harbor freight tools, i've had mine for seven years and no issues. i thought it was a disposable tool cuz of the el cheapo price at first but somehow it turned out to be a damn good investment. LOL

There's no benefit to gain from torquing too much. 80-85 is totally fine, as long as they don't get loose after heat cycles.

Never used a torque wrench in my life. I cut an aluminum pipe just slightly longer than my stock tire iron to use as a breaker bar & to tighten my lug nuts. It works great for me and never had any issues. I autox my Z every month and I usually re-torque the lug nuts after a few runs just to make sure everything is still tight, and they do stay tight.

After never using a torque wrench on my old cars I bought one for this car (craftsman $69.99). I was really surprised how little pressure is needed to get to 85 ft lbs. I bet I put like 200 ft lbs on my old car/lugs.

You sure it wasn't 85 in lbs you torqued?

Also make sure to check them again after a week or so of driving to make sure that everything remains tight.

you probably werent over 130 or so. Its hard to break a bolt at 130 ftlb with a breaker bar, much less a normal ratchet.

Your tq wrench probably is about 18-24 inches long right? If you were using a 1ft long 1/2" drive ratchet to tq the lug nuts, itd only take half the force needed with the tq wrench. The longer the wrench the easier it is to tq.
