Default A little tire help

I had a set of Kuhmo Ecsta 712' 235/40-18 on my Eclipse, and last week I got a flat, and when we took the tire off, the entire back sidewall was split wide open. I get my Z in 30 more days, and first thing I am doing is getting new tires put on. I am scared to death of this happening again, and want to make sure I get the right size and tire to keep this from happening again. I am thinking of Yokohama or Toyo's, depending on price. So do y'all think if I get this size again this will happen again? I don't know if the tires were too wide or what. This has probably been posted a bazillion times, but I didn't have time to search since I am at work.

Are you buying tires for your Eclipse or replacing the Re040s on the Z?

It is for the Z. I put my stock ones back on the Eclipse. I have a set of aftermarket rims that was on there, but I will be putting them on the Z and want new tires all around. MY Kumho's only have 10k miles and half the tread is already gone.

The rims you are putting on the Z are 18X?

As for tires for the Z I am going to replace the RE040s with S-03s.

No matter what size you get, (just make sure you get the CORRECT size), and you run a tire underinflated, you willl damage the sidewall if ran for a prolonged period of time. Unfortunately for us that run low-profile tires, by the time we realize that we have a flat...it's already too late.
Go with Yokohamas. A small percentage of Toyo tires develop stress crack when they're run with low air pressure. Good Luck !!!
