Bridgestone RE050A PP tires?
I will be replacing my worn to nothing OEM RE040's in a month and had a few questions on the RE050A tires. Are these the stock tires they are putting on 06+ Z's? I noticed on tirerack they have a few models of this tire, such as RE050, RE050A and RE050A PP (pole position). Im sure lots of you are running the OEM RE050's on the newer Z's, so opinions on these tires would be great. I would consider something like Michelin PS2's, but they are almost 100 dollars more per tire.

PS2's were nothing great. I had 2 sets of them. The RE050's are a better tire. Very soft. You will get 10,000 mi out of them at best. But well worth buying. The Yokohama ADVAN Sports are an awesome tire as well. I like both better than the Michelins.

I've read that the RE050's are good tires. A little pricey, but good.
Personally, I will never buy Bridgestone again. I've been disappointed too many times. If you like them, go for it.

Bridgestone had the perfect opportunity to show me the kind of tire they could make when they sold the RE040s to Nissan and its not like its a cheep tire.
IMHO they are some of the worst tires I have ever had on any car. I don't think they deserve my patronage.

Nissan picks what tire they want on the car, not the other way around
I just got a set of RE050A for my car..there are some differences between the RE050, the A and the PP version. The PP is the best of the bunch with a bit softer compound, for dry traction emphasis, but it only has a limited size range. The RE050's are the OE tires used on lots of cars...Jags, Mercedes, etc. The RE050A are also used on some OE cars too (599)...some in runflat versions, some in non

I think it is telling that Nissan has finally decided to pay a bit more and get a better tire after all of this time, maybe the engineers finally went on a hunger strike in protest to their hard work being wasted on such poor tires.
If I were bridgestone I wouldn't let RE040s leave the factory with my name on them, it is clearly bad for business. They could be making tires that stick like gum to a school desk, I still would not buy them and from the comments over at tirerack, lots of others feel the same way.

I'm sure they are getting a great deal.....they are buying alot of tires. I guess I'm not as brand conscious as you then - every manufacturer makes a tire similar to the RE040 - because its a tire designed to go on a wide variety of cars. OK so an RE040 is not the grippiest performance tire ever created - so what? Very few cars come from the factory with truly worthwhile tires, especially cars at the price point of a Z. It's a very easy situation to rectify.

i am switching to the Potenza RE960 AS tires here soon. Not too bad for a all season performance tire (at least the reviews for this tire and performance are ranked really high) i will see once i get them on, but anything is better than what i have on right now (Kumho MX, put on in early 2004).
