I really liked the gtv01 and was ready to order a set of 18x10.5s. Just as I was about to pull the trigger I checked on the weight and it was a boat anchor deal breaker. Very disappointed at SSR as I've owned many sets of their wheels, including Schumachers back in the late 90s.

I know they are heavier than the forged versions but wouldn't classify them as boat anchors

You could always go with the forged versions

@ nearly 27lbs it just didn't make sense to sell rpf1s for heavier and costlier wheels. Didn't know they made a forged version, maybe next year.

gtv01 in 18x10.5 +15 come in at about 25.5lbs but are going to be a hell of a lot stronger than an rfp1.

I've owned work XD9s that were 18x10 +38 and those were 28lbs

Seriously doubt ssr cast is stronger than enkei mat cast. Same sure. Stronger no way.

Not all wheels are constructed in the same casting technology and not all wheels are designed to withstand the same amounts of force. Just because they are both cast doesn't mean they are equal, which is what you are assuming

Both wheels designs are JWL complaint but I am sure SSR's level of impact resistance is much greater than Enkei

Danh, feel free to add or correct me

it's not a matter of the casting. The processes between the two are basically the same. Enkei's MAT Technology is what is more commonly called flow forming. Weds has something called AMF (Advanced Metal Forming) which is also what they call Flow Forming.

What I'm referring to is the wheel itself. The wheel is designed to be lightweight, not to be a "strong" wheel. I'm not knocking the RPF1, I think it's a great wheel and have many friends that run them. And if you happen to break one, is cheap enough to replace.

Same thing with the SSR Competition that Tire Rack used to offer. It was one of the lightest wheels on the market but not known for being a super strong wheel.

Strong, Light, Cheap, You can have two...

A wheel that is strong and light isn't cheap. A wheel that is light and cheap isn't strong. A wheel that is strong and cheap isn't light.

When you get into the strong and light realm, you're going into forged territory and we all know that forged wheels aren't cheap.

The GTV series wheels will pass all of the same strength tests as SSR's GT-F01 Forged wheel, it does so but is heavier and about half the price.

As dvo pointed out. Enkei mat technology make it one of the best cast wheels on the market along with weds!
