Default flat unrepairable new tire

So I leave work yesterday and notice my TPM was showing a rear tire @ 25psi and all others are at 37psi....

I get a mile down the road and realize we got major probs at 10psi.

I pulled into a Firestone to have them check/repair it and they find a 3 inch steel staple between the sidewall and tread. I just put my set of BFGs on in November and have ~3k miles on them.

They said it was unrepairable which I saw coming. I had them put the spare on and came back today. they had put a new BFG on and OTD $200.

They were stunned when I asked for my old tire back so I could patch it myself... I got it home tonight and looked and they had patched the tire at the shop!

I suppose they assumed they would just resell it, and charge me a tire disposal fee!

Have you thought maybe they tried to repair it anyways and see if the patch would hold? Sometimes when the puncture position is questionable the tech would try to patch it just to see if it'll hold.

i had the same problem a couple of weeks ago at a firestone, but mine wasnt even on the sidewall it was probably an inch from it, and they told they couldnt patch it, so i went somewhere else and they did it for me.
