Default Vibrations at 80 mph+

I know the obvious answer would be that my wheels are out of balance, but I JUST had them mounted and balanced. I DID hear a noise that sounded like a rock hitting my inner fender and thought that that could possibly be a weight coming off the wheel. But I don't want to accuse a shop of not doing it right or good enough without knowing for sure. I checked the tire pressure...good. I checked that none of the lugs loosened up or anything...all was good. The only other thing I could think would be a possibility, would be those little rings that you get with your wheels that help the middle of the wheels have no play with the hub...if those are not correct, could that be an issue? These wheels were on an '05 Z and I switched them to an '07 Z...are there any changes that would cause these to not just swap over? I am just trying to make sure when I accuse the shop of doing a bad job that they don't come back with something that is not their fault and charge me for labor for nothing.

A weight could have just come off. Sometimes they have trouble sticking if the the weather is cold or damp. Just take it back to the shop and tell them you think its out of balance. If its a good shop they shouldn't have nay problem checking it again.

well how do you know what hub rings to get? I mean all wheels are different. You can't jsut call some place and say I have racing harts and an '07 Z and they will know what i need, can you? Are there measurements that need taken or anything like that?

And about the wheels being out of balance and feeling them at low speeds, When I first ordered these wheels, who I bought them off screwed up the balancing REAL bad and I couldn't tell until 45-50+ mph. so I don't think it is far fetched that if a single weight came off that I wouldn't feel it until 80+

I deal with this stuff all the time and it's definitely a hub centric ring issue. Vibrations usually occur from 55+. The center bore of all 350z are 66.1. The only thing you have to do is to find the center bore of the wheels you purchased. Call them up or do something research on the wheels. Your inner diameter is 66.1 and the outer diameter is whatever your wheel bore is. Go to any website that sells these, and find the correct one. They pop right into the center bore of your wheels. These plastic hub rings will help you eliminate vibrations at high speeds. Hope this helps out...

is that 66.1 the same across ALL years? Because I have those rings and everything was great on my '05. I don't see why they would change the diameter of the hub for the '07. If anything I would say on the '07s the diameter would be bigger than the prior years....but that would cause the hub centric rings to not seat flush when I swapped the wheels...and I assure you they DID fit on there perfect and mounted right up flush.

Dude, that's crazy that you say that because I just put my Volk Progressive TEs on my 07 and I noticed the same thing! Around 75 I thought to myself "this car is shaking!", so I got off the highway right away. My hubcentric rings fit the 07 just right. Had an 04. I guess I'll take it in and see.

More to follow.

And is it just me or does the rolling diameter of the stock wheels seem bigger than the other years? Could it be something with Traction Control? I shut off traction control and it still did it though. I mean the stock wheels are XXX/45/18...and my toyo TR1s are XXX/35/19...I thought the rule of thumb is that for every inch in diameter your wheel is...the sidewall goes down 5...not 10. Am I wrong on this?

I took it in today and they rebalanced all the wheels free of charge and they saw that the rear passenger wheel was two ounces off but they didn't think that would be the issue. I took it for a spin up to 120 and smooth as silk. So it turned out I was right, the right rear lost a weight or two. Thanks for the help guys.

Go to whoever balanced your wheels and have them check them. And if you ordered them and they came mounted and balanced then you may have to pay the money for someone local to balance them for you. I have had a set of wheels show up completely out of balance before.

?? Huh?

If the wheels are out of balance, there is no "set" point where you feel it..it can happen at low and high speeds, or both

If the shake is in the steering wheel, the problem is in the front - hubcentric rings, improper torquing of lug nuts and wheel weighs are the obvious choices

If the shake is in your seat bottom, the problem is in the rear

The steering wheel does not seem to shake at all the shaking just feels from the car when it gets to 85+ and my passenger seat starts shaking like crazy and my shift **** vibrates pretty much, would it be all four wheels?

Default hp wheels

i bought an 05 with 19" hp design wheels and my car does the same exact thing as pimp has described. at 80 all is fine, but as i approach 100 the car shakes. i feel it everywhere. pimp please pm me if you get this sorted. i am going to get new tires in a few weeks, and i hope it will go away. i love the way these wheels look, so i hope they are not at fault.

I'm having the same problem (Go over 80 Feel slight shake). I got my wheels installed mounted and balanced on Friday. I pulled out of the place and heard something fly off the car from underneath. Thought maybe I ran something over. Heard it again and again a total of 6 times now. Suddenly I get the chane to get on the Highway. Soon as I got to 80MPH the car had a slight shake. Called and told them what was happening they asked me to come in.

Ok so here I am pulling in now the owner comes up to me and says OH, they didnt call you??? I say no! Well what happened was they ran out of weights that stick on so instead of Telling me they put the weights that get mounted to the edge of the rim. BIG NO FN NO FOR CHROMS 20's HELLO! So the guy says to me he is sorry they didnt tell me but they are getting the weights in on Wednesday to come back in and they will Balance all tires for Free.

In my head.... You dam rite your doing it for free, and your dam lucky none of the weights scratched my car, or this meeting wouldnt be a meeting it would be me with a Tire Iron. So it turns out my Wheels were not balanced correctly.

1 of you said that you will feel the shaking early if the wheels are not balanced. This is not true. Its at high Speeds that you feel it. Low speed shakes are from something else like an Alighnment.

if one of the wheels is off just by a reading of .05 on the balancing machine, you'll feel the vibration, trust me.
also some inexpensive off brand tires and rims will have a hard time getting 100% balanced. i bought a set of cheap tires from sears a while back and the whole car would vibrate ...took them back the next day for a set of goodyears and it was all good.

So I got my rims re-balanced and everything is good. I lowered it on Eibachs Prokits this saturday and no shaking past 90, no mis alighment issues, and its smoother then stock imho.
