245 will stretch but a 235 will run a little short on my opinion. Were the 18's 245-255?

 

You can run stock rubber on them but they will be stretched a little. fine for daily driving but if you plan to really push the car hard in turns then I would look at wider tires to suit the wheel.

You guys are all wrong. Each tire and wheel has their own min/max application threshhold. If you have the factory 245/45/18s RE040s, the min/max wheel width required is 7.0-9.0". It's not 9.5". Even though some people stretch their tires on larger wheels, it's considered an unsafe application because your tire's bead is not properly set and the sidewalls will not have the proper support. For 9.5 you need at least a 265 for good fitment. Consult the tire's application chart on the web if you doubt what I am saying.
