Default 275/40/17 MT DR on stock 17" wheel

I have been researching the site for any infomation on drag radials but I haven't found a definate answer on whether a 275/40/17 MT DR will fit a 17" base stock wheel which I believe is 8.5" for the rear. I know jegs.com recommends a 9" wheel but I thought I read somewhere that is has been done. I really do not want to spend more money buying new wheels when I have almost brand new stock wheels gathering dust in my garage.

i know for a fact that the 255/45/17 will fits the stock rear rims perfectly....anything wider than that is questionable.

BFGoodridge recommends a 9-11 inch wide rim for their 275/40R17 Drag radials.

There are several OEM 17-inch wheels including 17x7.5 and 17x8. I do not recommend a 275 mm tire (any tire) on either.
