Default TIPS programmer

So when I bought my car, it had these aftermarket MB Motoring Weapon wheels.....and no TPMS in the wheels. So I went ahead and purchased TPMS sensors from a fellow member here almost a year ago. I haven't installed them because Nissan said they want $25/wheel to remove tire, install sensor, replace tire PLUS they want $100 per wheel to program them. Now I may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but $100 per wheel seems expensive for what I think is about a minute's worth of work per wheel.

So after doing a little searching here and on the internet, I found a universal TIPS programmer for $376. Would something like this be all I need to program the new TPMS sensors to be read by my car? Or is it more involved that this?

generally the dealer will use the ConsultII along with an RF transmitter similar to a garage door opener.

you have to goto TPS sensor re-cal menu then press and hold the transmitter next to each wheel. takes like 15 minutes to do all four. i dont think that universal one would work unless you somehow tell the car you're goin to re-register the sensors thru the OBD2 port.

try it out. if it works great.

OK, Just found out some more info......

Nissan/Infiniti: A direct-measuring TPM system is found in the 2000 to 2002 Quest minivan and 2003-and-later 350Z and Murano SUV models. The Q45 from 2002 is equipped with run-flat tires and RF sensors/transmitters built into the valve stem. The 2003 and later M45 and FX models with conventional tires also have the same TPM system. Infiniti TPM system part numbers and prices are different from those used on Nissan models. After tire rotation, TPM system repairs or removal of the vehicle’s long-term storage fuse, the system must be reprogrammed with the Nissan/Infiniti scan tool (made by Vetronix) and the pressure sensor ‘wake-up’ tool. On most models, the TPM receiver/control unit is near the blower motor.
So I guess the TIPS tool that I found above is like the 'wake up' tool described here, but since the sensors are new to my car, will i also need the scan tool?

The TIPS tool's instruction manual says to put the car into 'learning mode'.....does the 350Z have a learning mode? It shows a picture of a hand holding a key fob.

Ah Ha, so in order to put our car into 'tpms learning mode' i would need to have and use ConsultII? that sux. It seems as if there was a way to put in leaning mode using the remote or a button on the dash it might work.

Maybe i'll send an email or call the company and ask if they know.

Thanks for the response.

Just find another dealer. Most should only charge about $50 total to program the sensors.

I was thinking along very similar lines at you

I may purchase it. With the big push by the government for TPMS sensors in all production cars, it might not be a bad investment.

I got most of my info on the tool at www.tipstool.com - the flash demo was pretty cool.

Maybe you/they are misunderstanding something. The whole process takes less than 30 minutes. Even if they charged you 1 hr of labor that would only be $75-$90, not $100 per wheel.

well.. to unmount and remount tires with a new TPS in each one might be what the dealer is trying to charge you. they always make up some BS like cuz they're over sized wheels they'll need to charge extra to install it. eh.

most wheel shops will install the TPS sensors for you in all four wheels for about $100 or so. then its at most $75 to use their consult II and clicker from a nissan/infiniti dealer.

Hello All,

Is the TPS sensor the same from a 2005 model to a 2007 model? I'm buying a set of 2007 Rims + Tires locally, and it comes with the TPS sensor. Will this work with my 2005 350z?

Thanks!

I read that the 2007 tps sensors are green (not blue like 2005) and I believe the 2007 Zs dont display each individual wheels tire pressure. good luck

Yeah the 07's don't display pressure they just display if the pressure is below a certain level.
