Default what is this? (photo)

I finally got my car up on a lift today and was taking photos. This is on the front suspension, can anyone tell me what it is/does?

I didn't dig under mine to find it and get a better understanding of where it is located...the picture didn't depict this well...but my guess is...and with some logical deduction you can tell me if I'm right...but am guessing a max turn stopper? If it is on a moving part of the steering mechanism...and if the wheel is cocked to it's max either way and this comes close to a stationary metal contact point...well, then this is my guess. Sorry I'm not a mechanic and don't know the proper terms...but that's the story I'm sticking with for the time being.

I realize we are talking totally different vehicles...but I'm sticking with my guess. My '99 Wrangler had something that looked similar in the same location and if I turned my wheel all the way, it would barely come into contact with a stop point. Now you have me curious and I'm going to have to stick my head under mine next time I take her out. Can you tell from my description?...does my theory hold water? Turn the wheel all the way to the right or left and one or the other should come close to a contact point...but don't assume to look at the left side when you turn the wheel to the left, I don't remember which side acts as a stop for turning the wheel in any given direction.

I don't have any other guesses unless it is a "tit" for when your car gives birth to a baby Z.

I am pretty sure you are correct in your assumption, and I would assume you could switch them out if for some reason you wanted to change the turning stop point on the car for different wheels.

Thanks!

yup, steering stops.

most are double-nutted, so you can adjust the existing ones. i havent looked at mine yet, nor did i get a good enough look at your picture to see if that is the case.
