Need help choosing lug nuts...
I want to go with black lugs on my matte black wheels.
Are there any matte black lugs out there? I am looking into closed design, not open-ended. Rays Duralumin is out - they fade and they are aluminum. Lugs are not a useful place to save grams of weight, IMO.
I have narrowed it down to ebay cheapies (acorn style), or McGard splines.
Pros for McGard:
- spline-drive is cool
- washer on the contact point is cool (but do I really need this?)
- have heard the finish is very durable
- spline forces shops to use the special thin-wall socket
Cons for McGards
- price (~$70) not really a con for the level of quality though
- they are REALLY shiny (black chrome) and might really reflect the silver center section of the rim and they may not look very black in this application
- intricate design (busy) and shiny combination might cast weird light patterns when the sun hits them.
Pros for ebay cheapies:
- cheap
- simple design - I like the simple hex design
- black and not too shiny - powedercoated
Cons for ebay cheapies:
- cheap - will they chip easily? coating is black annodized
- no rotating washer, but do I need that?
- odd 13/16ths-inch hex size
- Shop might not use a thin-walled socket(?)
Locks? Meh! - if a thief wants your rims, there's nothing you can do, IMO
McGards:
Ebay cheapies (Anyone try these?):
Before and after photoshops of my rims:
Thanks for your input...
