i guess they just switch sides up front? Is that as good as doing the fronts to the opposite backs on other cars?

some tires are not symmetric and cannot be rotated... and yes the other option is just to switch sides

basically you dont rotate. switching the fronts means dismounting the tires and remounting them as they are directional. cant just switch side to side.

just have to replace them more often. You can't expect tires to wear out evenly so when one tire goes earlier than others, that's just a fact of life to be driving a sports car.

But since the Z has tendency to understeer, it would be good idea to get same wheel width all around.

not all tires are directional.

sorry, call my dumb but if the front tires are differnt sizes then the back...and the tires are directional..dont they HAVE to replace the tires? Cuz when you put the rightside tire with the rotational arrow pointing forward on the left side....the arrow will be facing the otherway...going back....the wrong direction.

not in front of my car right now but aren't both rotation arrows pointing forward on the left and right tire?

That is why he said you have to dismount them and remount them on the wheels.

yup, dismount them, and remount them in the opposite direction so they will be right on the other side.

personally I would not want to drive the Z on tires that arent directional, they would just suck, good tires these days are directional.

just swap them side to side, atleast the Z is RWD so unlike FWD cars all 4 tires do work, and thus will wear a bit more evenly front to back.

aahh...so the inside of the right tire would be come the outside of the left side therefor keeping it in the forward rotation...i get it. i was just used to cross rotating.

keep in mind you'll have to pay to have tires swapped. Also if you have good aftermarket rims, there's the chance they'll damage it and then play it off like they didn't do it.

i thought it would be covered under warranty to have them swapped if its the bad alignment....but then the crappy feathering will be on the outside and look like junk...I WANT NEW TIRES!!!

My front tires wore very evenly and I replaced both at 16K miles. The rears also wore very evenly and were placed at 20K miles. I had a couple track days and several AutoX's on them, so hopefully that is part of the reason they wore so fast (I also commute on twisty roads, which doesn't help).

For me, rotating wouldn't really have mattered, since the wear was very even anyway (on a per-tire basis). Hopefully it is similar for most others.

don't forget about tire pressure transponders being swapped also, it;s better just to leave them un-rotated...

Isn't the tire pressure monitor mounted on the rim though... not the tire? So we shouldn't have to worry about this, right?
