Default Found a pot of gold at tire graveyard!

So, I recently came into a set of wheels for my Z. They wheels came with front tires (Bridgestone S03 pole positions) that have about 6-7/32nds tread left, so I thought I would burn those up before getting new ones. So I was off to find some rear 275/35/19's. I had looked around online and had actually found some Nittos I was going to buy.

The day before I'm due to buy, a buddy of mine tells me about how he got a great deal on his tires at a used tire shop - he told me where it was, but I kinda blew him off since I had already found what I was going to get. I'm on my way home and pass by the tire shop he was referring to so I thought "what the hell..." and stopped. They were stupid busy and nobody was really paying attention to me, so while I'm waiting i look around at racks and racks of tires they have out front. (Keep in mind that these are all used tires that look, well, pretty rough.) I'm about to leave when a worker comes up and asks what I'm looking for. In my mind I'm sure that they won't have them but I ask anyway, " Do you guys have any 275/35/19 inch tires?" He says, "maybe" and points behind the shop to this gigantic graveyard of tires that I didn't even notice and says, "All the 19" tires are in the back." So i go out there and rummage through and find some realllllly worn out 285/35/19 Continental tires...and I'm like, uugh! so close to my size.

Then I find it.....

... a STACK of Bridgestone Potenza R050a run flats..... 2 of which are MINT! 9-10/32nds tread on them....totally even tread, no nails, to sidewall scrubs, no cracks...no nothing....just perfect *** tires...

after looking over each tire for about 5 minutes each (trying to find the flaw)...I roll them up and ask how much they are....

He says, "uuummmm.... $40 each" *Waabaaamm!*

I have never pulled my wallet out so fast! I may be back to pick up the other Bridgstones for spares!

at 40$ each I would have gotten a stockpile for future use. worst case scenario you can resell them if you don't need em later. lol

Pot of gold??? Dude, they're run-flats. That's like finding a stash of disco records on 45s. My guess is that they are old stock that some distributor couldn't legally sell anymore.

Here, check this out... http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=11

More likely is that they are take-offs from an expired lease car at a BMW dealership. They can't do anything with the tires other than sell them to a used tire place. The tired *are* used, just not used very much.

That explains why they are the model they are as well as run-flats.

OMG! UPDATE!

So I went back to this place today looking for 245's for the front for the hell of it and it turns out this whole place is a pot of freaking gold. Everything you could imagine. SOooo many of these tires are nearly new. They have ALL of our crazy sizes. I found a pair of like new Goodyear 285/35/19s....a few pair of 255/35's and all the wide *** 18" sizes some of us run. This place is a paradise. Unfortunately they were out of 245's but I'll be going back to check again since they're sooo close to my work. This place is DOPE!
