Default Powder coating

I've got the 18" stock chrome wheels for my 350z, and I hate them. I was wanting to get the Bronze NISMO wheels as replacement, but they're expensive. So I've though about powder coating the stock chrome wheels to bronze, and I'm basically wanting some input and opinions about what to do.

I'm nervous about powder coating the wheels, just on the off-chance that they look terrible coated bronze.

it's not an "off chance".
it's definitely going to look like ***.

if you can't afford it now, why waste money on "powercoating"? just save the money towards the Nismo rims.

this has been mentioned many times on this forum, painting/powdercoating stock wheels makes the car look cheap. search.

Look in the Stock rim modification thread I think there are one or 2 stock rims powder coated bronze. IMO they dont really look that good.

Have you talked with a shop about powder coating your rims? I suspect you will have to strip the chrome and that might be pretty costly. It might be less expensive if you sold your chromes and bought new wheels.

Not sure what you are asking. There is a technique for painting chrome wheels. Take them to a shop and get them painted.

I gave some thought about trying to save money for the rims I want; however, my roomate has a buddy that can powder coat the rims for $100 (for all 4) bronze. He said that chrome is actually the easiest and best type of material to powder coat, since you dont sand blast, and the paint still sticks to the chrome just as easy. They way the chrome stock 18" wheels are designed are very similar to a lot of the gram lites I've been looking at. So in essence I'm sure that they'll turn out fine, not to mention I'm getting a great deal.

And if all else fails, and I don't like them...I'll save the money and get the wheels I want anyway, I'm sure it can't be any worse than chrome anyway.

Thanks for the input too
