Default Dunlop Z1 Star Spec vs Bridgestone RE040

Anyone upgraded from OE RE040 tires to the dunlops? I just ordered the dunlops for a great price from tire rack. What should I expect? I searched and found great reviews on them but want to know what I should expect for the upgrade.

You can expect huge amounts of dry and wet grip, and a large grin on your face. You won't get a lot of tread life (200 wear rating), so just be prepared to replace them quicker than some other tires out there.

That reminds me to buy another set, while they are on sale......

Enjoy!!

2 different cars but...

At autox I was running the RE040's on my Z, a guy has a new Civic Si with Star Specs and all the supporting mods (suspension, sways etc...) and he would always destroy me. I was finally able to take first once at the end of the season probably because he had been running the same set of tires all season where as I was on my 2nd or 3rd set (track days :P). I would sit back and couldn't fathem the grip that his tires had as I watched him steer hard through the cones, I felt like I must be driving on hockey pucks because I could never push my front tires that hard! Anyways, if you actually push your car to it's limits these tires must be vicious, on the other hand if you just drive on the street you will have nice and soft tires that will wear out fast for no reason lol.

Personally I have found the RE040's to wear terribly when tracked, it always looks like someone has taken a hot knife or spoon to my tires and just taken chunks out of them all over the place. None the less, they do offer awesome grip when real hot and most people can't believe I'm on street tires. I'm going to mount RE050's for this season, hopefully they do not suffer the same problem, likewise with your Star Specs!

Enjoy them, I'm jealous.

I also bought a set of Dunlop Z1 star specs from tirerack. Reviews have been good for them and the price is lower then the Advan AD08 and the Bridgestone Re11
