Depends on the look you want.Its all about preferance.
Your wheels have some excellent detail.I would(just my 2 cents)darken them
without going totally black.DupliColor Shadow has become very popular in this area.
You can add the amount of coats you want to give the desired darkness to the rims then clear coat them.

I say, go for the darker, gun metal look.
