Default Road Force Balance experience

Had a very slight vibration in steering wheel after installing Forge F14's. Really minor, but it bugged me. So...I called the local *Road Force Guru* here in Burbank, Ca to make an appt for the fronts. He asked me if I had After Market wheels...said *Yes*..did I have Hub Rings on em (DUH??)...Yes...
*No can do*..I said REALLY? He got nasty..*What did I just tell you*...by by GURU! Called another shop with Road Force..guy was polite..said no problem AS LONG AS WHEEL IS TRUE..and we can check for that first by spinning the wheels on the car. Long story short..took around an hr for 2 wheels..they turn the tire on the rim and remount. He also showed me a very small minor side bend in the rim you can see only by spining and viewing from the balance machine. Anyway...now runs like BUTTER! Road Force works very well.

This is "old school",nothing new.
Wheel truing has been around forever. But,its hard to find guys or,the equipment
to do this. Most times they use a hydraulic press to get the whell into shape.
Most times vibration is due to tire/wheel imbalance.Tires manufactured today have much better tolerances(round)then before.Michelin was the first to really do a "round" tire.I
used to get my tire/wheel assemblies balanced on the car.Very few shops now do this.
With the tolerances and computer balancing, most times this is not necessary.Same
goes for tire truing..shaving rubber with a lathe to get the fire round. Not many do this.
Its good to hear there are shops available that will get a car "perfect" for us **** guys
that want the smoothest ride possible.

Agree.
The thing I didn't get was the the manner in which the *Guru* dismissed me...just for having hub ring set up? I understand they balance them without the hub ring..perhaps LUG centric. I guess he thought adding a hub ring AFTER the balance invalidates the results (in his mind anyway)? No doubt many with hub rings get a Road Force balance with no problems.

Glad to hear you got it all settled. Weird that the "Guru" was so short. You'd think in this economy, money is money and work is work.

Most "guru" type guys are like that. There's some things that I know a LOT about. Probably more than anyone I know, on certain subjects. However, the "guru" term makes my skin crawl. Just seems like anyone that has that label is a pompous jerk.

On the topic of road force balancing... Yes, it works. And it's great.

Actually I labled him that...everyone says he can *do no wrong* and his Shyt doesn't smell either...read this in Yelp reviews. I actually found a *filtered* Yelp review (those are hidden, but accessable) that was very negative and depicted his *Jekyl/Hyde* personality. Anyway..I still don't understand his rationale on this hub ring thing? If anyone does..please chime in. As I said..I use em and Road Force worked without a hitch.

Your wheels are brand new, how did they get a bend?

That's not a very good sign....
