Default Which Tires

Please bring all of your cars to my house so that I may test drive different tire choices...

No seriously though,

Nitto 555, Michelin Pilot Sport, Yokohoma AVS DBS2,

I'll never, ever drive in the snow, but it does rain without warning here, so I need good wet traction too. Hopefully though I can keep her on the dry roads more often than not, other car is for poor conditions!

18's if it matters

Dan

all about the toyos man. also like the bridgestone F1 D1S I think it is. both suit me fine in the wet weather.

this summer we'll see how the toyo RA1 takes to the rain.

My Choice

Dunlop SP9000s. Great Handling, good in rain, low road noise and reasonably priced.

Tirerack rates the GOODYEAR EAGLE F1 GS-D3 as the best performance tire.

I just realized Tirerack divides its fast car tires into "Ultra High Perf." & "Max performance". Above is "Ultra"; here is "Max" which is more appropiate for our Zzzzs:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresults/max.jsp

I looked up Goodyear; they make a 245 but not a 225 in 18 inchers.

Check out the comparison reviews at www.xrims.com for the performance tires.

Toyo tires are outstanding, but if you can swallow the price, Michelins for all around performance are hard to beat, and they are very lightweight. The Bridgestone potenza pole position S0-3's are very excellent, but heavy, and a better price than the Michelin Pilot Sports. Pirelli is also good. But....I would go between either the Michelin or the Toyo.

First and foremost, what is your budget and primary reason for getting new tires? Weight, tire wear, all out grip? Or something that is a reasonable blend of all these (or more) criterion?

There is no ultimate tire in general terms...it is very much down to YOUR car, your desired sizes, suspension setup, etc. For example, many tires work really well on some cars, but not on others. Best bet, talk to fellow owners, and see what they use. I am sure the same tires will come up time and time again, at which point it really comes down to budget.

I personally have T1S on my car (18's), and though its my first set on one of my personal cars, and have been completely pleased. I have also been a P Zero loyalist on other personal cars, and loved them, and used S03's on both an S4 and S2k, and loved those as well (except for the weight).

Depends on your budget, but Goodyear F1 GS-D3, Toyo Proxes T1 or Bridgestone S-03's seem to be popular tires. Check out tirerack.com for complete tire reviews.

The Eagle F1's are the tires to get. These are outstanding, and not that bad in price too.

I have 17" stock wheels and tires.
Any advice about:
Can I keep my stock fronts and switch to the 255/45/17 Goodyear rears without any issues?
Also AZ has no rain....but the reviews seem to favor their performance for dry pavement as well.
What other tires do you think you would consider if you lived here?

Thanks,
Tom

IMO do not mix tires. Diff tires have diff limits and could make driving scarry under certain conditions. I also would not mix speed ratings on tires either (some companies makes the same tire in the same size but in diff speedratings eg. Kumho 712s 205-50-15 come in V and Z rated versions)
