Default New owner, new snow tires

Hey guys, just bought a 2004 roadster.

I will be picking up some snow tires this weekend, however, after searching, I haven't come across anybody with this combination.

I bought 16"/225/60 Mich Pilot Alpines. The radius of the back tire/rim will remain 338mm (same as factory 18"/245/45) and the front will rise about 8mm.

Comments welcome, I look forward to contributing to the forum.

Can't really comment on your specific setup, but it sounds like you should be OK. Lot's of people will say that you should keep a little more stagger from front to back (front being smaller in diameter of course) due to VDC and trac control, but I haven't had any problems running 235/17 (can't remember the aspect ratio right now?!!?) all around. Snow tires will make a huge difference. I've heard good things abou the Pilot Alpines, but I chose to go with the LM22's. I've been very happy. Good luck with your setup.

Thanks, staggered height 16" fronts and 18" rears, that's new for snows. It seems that the heights match pretty well.

Stock 17" F/R
225/50-17 4.4 in 12.9 in 25.9 in 81.2 in 780 / mile N/A
235/50-17 4.6 in 13.1 in 26.3 in 82.5 in 768 / mile 1.5%

Your F/R
225/60-16 5.3 in 13.3 in 26.6 in 83.7 in 757 / mile N/A
245/45-18 4.3 in 13.3 in 26.7 in 83.8 in 756 / mile 0.2%

Many people were speaking about tire diameter ratios(proportional to height) in terms of antislip. Since you are near identical height for both, I hope that you can post whether you have any problems in the future with the "SLIP" light engaging at funny times?

I wanted to match F and R heights initially, but in the end my rear snows are taller than the fronts (225/50/17 F vs 225/55/17 R).

I probably wasn't too clear with my post.

I am not running a staggered setup. I am putting 16"/225/60 on both the front and the rear.

The end result is the rear radius of the tire/rim's remain constant at 338mm and the front which is usually 330mm (with the stock 18"/225/45) will rise 8mm's.

I thought the extra height in the front would be good for snow conditions, also, I can rotate the tires.

I will let you all know how it turns out.
